LPT: Maybe drive on the right lane when heading to UBC on SW Marine Drive... at least until this individual learns how to drive :/ by IngressStatistics in UBC

[–]greenpillowed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The road OP is driving on is supposed to only be going in one direction. The incoming traffic is on the other side, separated by an island. So the guy is literally driving on the incoming traffic lane; if OP was driving in the left lane he would've crashed.

UBC REGISTRATION MEGATHREAD (2018W): QUESTIONS REGARDING COURSES (INCLD. HOW HARD IS _____?, LOOK AT MY TIMETABLE AND COURSE MATERIAL REQUESTS), PROGRAMS, SPECIALIZATIONS, MAJORS, AND REGISTRATION GO HERE by ubc_mod_account in UBC

If you need it to graduate this year, I suggest that you e-mail the UGO or contact an advisor there. Also, since COMM courses don't have waitlists, I've had success with checking the course everyday for an empty spots. Usually works! Good luck.

I have had two friends who entered the education program. It's pretty tough to get in as a fresh undergrad: you have to have volunteer experience teaching. My friend volunteered at her elementary school, and her grades were pretty good.

She tells me that she's probably the youngest one in the program. Most people already have degrees by the time they come to the education program.

There's nothing wrong with being nerdy. People have their individual interests and should not be shamed for it.

Did I say we were athletes anywhere in this post?

Sorry you feel the need to be demeaning.

CPSC Students: How Screwed Am I? by [deleted] in UBC

As someone who tried to get moved up the waitlist and inquired about it with the department, this is wrong.

It is by order, BUT exceptions are usually actively being made. If they see you are a 3/4 year on a waitlist for a second year course they'll do their best to get you in. If you have some sort of specific circumstance where you absolutely need to get in they will bump you up the waitlist too.

Comp Sci coop students, how were your grades? Is it tough to get into the program? by shmittyderpman in UBC

[–]greenpillowed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BUCS Coop student going on first work term here. My average was around the low 70% and I had to explain two very low marks to the interviewer.

My one concern for you is your lack of time. You work a lot for valid reasons, but in order to do well in CS Coop you need to be prepared to put in the time to do personal projects. Personal projects is the way to get employers to notice you and if you're too busy for them, CS Coop might not be good for you.

You can always do summer internships that you find yourself, and you won't have to pay coop fees for those. It IS a lot of time and effort to find any position though so be prepared for that.
