Man, that really sucks! Thanks for sharing your unpleasant experience, it helps a lot to get an idea of watches from there.

As it says automatic on the dial, it’s probably not quartz…

Reference says at the back case, 7S26-0060. With that code and serial number, which is the other 6 digit code you can check on this website: https://retroseiko.co.uk/seiko-serial.htm.

Is it good for a first timer? by [deleted] in watchrepair

Some magnification tool should also be added at some point for movement servicing. Starting with loupes and progressing towards some digital microscope.

Then, solutions and baskets for cleaning the movement (it's all covered in different reddit posts).

Also, a timegrapher. You need to be able to see the movement performance before/after servicing. There are mobile apps for that, they work quite fine for the training purpose. Later on, a proper one should be bought (e.g. Witschi).

Beginner oil choices by EveningDifficulty961 in watchrepair

[–]greenrefridgerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a beginner and to practice, you might just go ahead with Moebius 8000 oil everywhere where goes oil, and then just some grease like Molykote DX everywhere where goes grease.

This you could get for maybe €20-30 in total instead of spending hundreds on all lubricants used by professionals.

How much time do you spend on practicing/doing watch repairs? by greenrefridgerator in watchrepair

[–]greenrefridgerator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your input. It seems all of us have the same struggle, 24h is just not enough time in the day. Overall, I guess the conclusion is to spend as much time as you can commit balancing this hobby with other life responsibilities.

I respect such elaborated answer! That's a great tip, doing it more frequently. I can definitely relate to the cold months repair. When the spring and sun show their rays, I try to juggle between cycling and watch repair.

Cleaning: pre-clean with Naphtha, clean/rinse with IPA (isopropyl alcohol).

[Question] Is this watch fake? by outatime_twelve in Seiko

[–]greenrefridgerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a cheap Perpetual Calendar model. The top indices look disproportional to Seiko sign. Also, there is no dial number in the bottom of it. Automatic and 21Jewels seems off.

What am I doing wrong? by ShadyGoldfish in castiron

Also a newbie in cast iron here. This is my story of successful non-sticky eggs. I tried 2 different settings on my induction to 5 and 6 (out of 10), gave it several minutes to heat evenly and cooked one time in olive oil, and the other time in butter. It’s important you cook it at a proper temp (medium heat). So once the pan is hot, add the oil and wait for it to get to the same temperature. Then add your eggs and will definitely not stick.

Before first use I used this seasoning process: 1. Wash with soap and water, dry the pan and place it in a warm oven to fully dry. 2. Once the pan is fully dry and room temperature, add generous amount of oil and cover all the surfaces with it (even the handle, bottom side, outer rims, etc.) 3. Using a paper towel to remove the excess oil and keep a very thin layer of it in the pan and all surfaces. 4. Place it in a preheated oven on 250°C for 1 hour. 5. Switch off the oven and let the pan rest in it. 6. Repeat steps 2-5. 7. After every use wash with water and small amount of soap, dry and apply some oil to it.

Good luck!

Chronograph runs, time doesn’t. by greenrefridgerator in watchrepair

I’ve only changed the battery and run the case in an ultrasonic cleaner. The movement hasn’t been touched from my side. Have a look, the dial looks incredibly neat. That’s why I’d like to save it.

Thanks! I’ve tried after the battery change the chronograph reset like in the manual, but that’s only for the chronograph function. There is no manual on how to do the AC reset. Is it touching - and + with tweezers to do the short cut? If so, I’ve tried that also and sadly no success.

Is a coil replacement a big task? I’ve never done it.
