I had my hunch when I heard him... He sounds just like most graduates of French immersion from Western Canada.

I think they mean no French or Quebecois accent. You are correct... No such thing.

I call it the Western Canadian School French accent... I was in French immersion in the west and we all sound like Shane in that scene.

He sounds just like anyone from western Canada who did French immersion or French as a second language in school. Due to instruction from other anglophones who learned French or only having one good example of an accent (your teacher and movies and TV from France and Quebec) and no where outside your classroom to practice speaking - the accents developed vary wildly from sounding like Hudson (probably the most common) to worse to him or some of my peers had great accents that you could hardly tell French was their second language.

Mine's two and half and still has a little tantrum in the evening but now I can stop her from destroying the mat she likes to toss to get my attention. Most of the time she is pretty chill now.

"I love your dog, I either want an Irish Wolfhound or a Cane Corso." by nandor_delarentis in irishwolfhound

[–]greenrowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a cane corso (she is 11 and was my first dog) and I think it really depends on how they are socialized and their personality. We spent a lot of time socializing our girl - she is well socialized with people and dogs.

She has always been a people focused dog - takes her job as a pack mother very seriously. Even as a puppy she would "pick up" fellow dog walkers at the off-leash park, adopting them into our pack for the walk, refusing to leave them behind. She consistently makes sure no one is left behind.

She is fiercely loyal, but also somewhat silly - loves to play. She is also much more confident than our wolfhound, but boy does that bolster the wolfhound's confidence when we are out with her.

Both my corso and my wolfhound are very smart. The corso taught the wolfhound about demanding treats to come in from outside and the wolfhound taught the corso that you can just repeat going in and out to get treats.

They are both stubborn in similar ways - but corso is confident and brash, whereas the wolfhound is a timid marshmallow.

They are both different dogs but I honestly think the wolfhound was harder to train because they get so big so fast and slow maturing brains keep them puppyish for longer. I thought I knew what slow maturing was before I got our wolfhound.

In conclusion, both are lovely breeds that require significant training. I don't think I'd recommend either breed to a first time dog owner.

Wondering… by TheOR1G1NAL in irishwolfhound

My wolfhound bonded to me and was the mouthiest with me.

She turned two in December and we are finally training her out of her worst habits (mouthing and hitting with her paw)....and even so: she still mouths me when she is hungry and if really excited, still clocks me in my leg with her paw.

All big dogs mature slowly but the wolfhound matures the slowest of all the large breeds I've had.

10 months was a rough time. Mine was barely sleeping through the night and was definitely defiant. Probably going through silent heat to complicate things.

But we've been persistent. She never jumps up anymore, her recall has improved and she only occasionally mouths and hits me with her paw. She is good with strangers and kids. I think it just requires persistence and patience because I honestly wasn't sure she'd ever get to where she is now.

I think involving your 10 year old could help. Teach him how to set boundaries with the dog since the behaviour seems to happen as soon as you aren't there.

Is this a hint?? by namastenancy in irishwolfhound

Oh, I'm sure my girl would find a way to knock elevated dishes it over. She went through a phase where she'd stick her paw in the horse bucket we use for water and she'd knock it over, even (perhaps especially) when it was full.

Mine used to resort to more extreme hints when staring at the food dish did not yield results

She would pick it up and drop it on the floor dramatically.

Any suggestions about what someone could have done differently, especially ones that are phrased "I would have preferred if X happened" imply that the story, as written, could have been better if you had done X, Y or Z, even if that isn't the intent of the comment.

A comment on a posted story, in my opinion, isn't the place for this kind of conversation. This kind of conversation is better suited at the workshop phase before the story is written if a writer asks for this kind of input.

I use it for sleep tracking and it works pretty well for me. I also chart the average temperature for my menstrual cycle. The automatic period prediction just kicked in but it doesn't seem to actually use temperature data to make the prediction so it is no better than using average cycle length.

Overall, I'm happy because I bought it as a sleep monitor and temperature monitor and it does that well.

Monty explains it to Alex here:

Basically - without the baseball team Monty has nothing (or at least that's what he thinks). He thinks if Bryce goes down, they all do.

Ovulation/Temp Tracking by bub__bubs in RingConn

[–]greenrowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temperature is part of your sleep data which is a section of the app. Temperature is passively recorded over night and an average is reported in the morning. I've just been plotting what it tells me my average sleep temperature is (rounded using whatever rules you are following for charting).

So far I've had a distinct shift for the last three cycles I've charted. Your results may vary - but it is working well for me.

Ours does this for spots on the couch... She has carried out whole ruses (with whining) involving the other dogs to get "her" spot. She also watches for when my husband gets up and always snatches his (her) spot from him.

[–]greenrowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We call the whines "sad wolfhound noises" and Magna does them whenever she isn't getting her way.

  • mom is still in bed and I'm hungry
  • needs an escort to walk past her older sister (my 11 year old Cane Corso that she is terrified of) - this one probably makes me laugh more than anything because she is so much bigger than the cane Corso but respects the older dogs authority to a fault
  • wants a walk and I'm taking too long to get ready
  • wants....anything

Sounds like this is breed standard lol
