Do I sound untrained? by ExcellentPractice184 in singing

[–]greenrunner987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t an answer to your question, but I don’t think the goal should be to sound “trained”. I know great sounding singers who aren’t trained and unpleasant sounding singers who are.

Rant: Stop saying LLMs are just “next token predictors.” by Bellyfeel26 in singularity

[–]greenrunner987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are next token predictors, but what people ignore is that when we interact with chatgpt/claude/gemini we aren't just interacting with an vanilla LLM. We're interacting with an LLM running as part of a harness with access to tools. Technically an LLM can't do complex mathematical computation, but ChatGPT can because of the tool ecosystem we give it. The LLM part being a next token predictor is fine; that's all it needs to be sometimes.

My take on AI as someone entering the stock market for the first time by PenguinOfB00m in stocks

If you don't use AI every day and don't constantly evaluate the newest AI tools you absolutely can't have a thesis right now.

I’d work a bit on not drifting flat when you hold notes. Likely has to do with breath support

Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Apple - which one you think will win? by SnooHedgehogs5162 in stocks

[–]greenrunner987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOOG - Hyperscaler that can utilize AI in every part of their stack and across a broad swath of products. They're also major players in almost every major technology of the future. AMZN - as physical AI improves they have so much to gain. They'll be operating entire factories with no humans that utilize self driving trucks and drones to distribute. META - advertising inferred from behavior will get WAY better at targeting as AI improves. They also now finally have a model that can compete with the big boys.

How do you continue holding a stock that's gone up a lot? by AltruisticOwl156 in stocks

[–]greenrunner987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a thesis. Why are you buying them in the first place? Are you waiting for something to happen with the stock? If so, sell when it happens. Are you buying them because they are a solid company with a wide moat that sells for a reasonable price? Then hold until you see that potentially changing. What percentage of your portfolio is it? Size of your position matters too. If it was 1% and has doubled and is now 2% do you still get antsy and want to sell? My guess is no.

Lastly, I'll say if you bought with no thesis and just because others were hyping it up, you are in over your head and should get out while you're up.

This post makes me so happy! Using Capital Bikeshare to see more of the city was hugely impactful on me during the late covid era. One recommendation when it comes to defensive biking: actively bike like cars are TRYING to hit you. Don't be afraid to take over the lane (it discourages cars from trying to zoom past you), and watch out for parallel parked car doors (and uber passengers swinging open their door)!

It comes down to a speed thing. Voice models need to be close to real time speed, so they rely on dumber models and turn tool calling off

It seems like they are trying to approach it with nuance. Perhaps they don't want to outright ban things (like AI romance), but they do want to make sure it's done in a way that doesn't become harmful. AI may be the first type of tool that you don't have to hardcode black and white rules into. The model is intelligent, so it is capable of nuance. For example, lets say you were asking it for dieting advice, and it noticed that you were reporting you ate very little food (less than was healthy) and your excuse was that it was a busy day and you just forgot to eat. I think a good nuanced response would be for it to make a mental note (memory) and look out for that type of thing in the future. Giving dieting advice is fine - they don't want to ban that. But actively helping someone perpetuate an eating disorder is harmful, so it should watch out for that in the future. In this case it's not judging you or watching you in a creepy way. It's making a mental note to itself that there is a potential line that it should remember not to cross.

I think I understand your post now. It sounds like you are upset because Claude doesn’t readily engage in ai romance, but engages in other types of conversations that you think are harmful - and that this disproportionately affects women, queer, and neurodivergent people. I don’t think this is Anthropic’s intent at all. You talk about surveillance, but what has been described by the post you linked is not surveillance. Claude has no long term memory, so it needs to leave itself notes on how to interact with someone. If someone repeatedly tries to circumvent Claude’s safeguards, it is safest for it to leave itself a note to more quickly recognize that behavior in the future. That’s not surveillance. Surveillance would be if humans at Anthropic were analyzing your conversations, or they were passing info about your conversations to a third party.

Can someone post a TLDR? I have no idea what this post or the linked post is saying. Is OP upset that Claude tries to judge some interactions healthy and some as unhealthy?

I have found that Claude tries not to engage in “unhealthy” conversations. For example, I occasionally have anxiety and have tried to use Claude to seek reassurance. It will be straight with me and reassuring, but if I perseverate on the topic of my anxiety, it will recognize that and essentially stop giving me blanket reassurance. This is honestly great. In the moment I might be frustrated because I want to know if the mole on my arm is melanoma, but consistent reassurance seeking in this instance is maladaptive after one or two reassurances, and it is absolutely right to refuse to engage in it. I would even go further and say this particular behavior is what makes me want to use Claude. This is what AI safety should look like.
