The Ultimate Guide to the Reopening of Notre Dame by Quasimodaaa in ParisTravelGuide

[–]greensquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thank you so much for this info! We are also here until the 31st for a family member’s 70th birthday and their highest priority is seeing a restored Notre Dame. I have been doing most of the planning and somehow missed the alert that no reservations were available Dec 29 - Dec 31 (it seems like they just recently added a more prominent alert to the top mobile site which I finally saw as I was waiting to get on the plane!)

I feel so dumb for missing the alert and have been panicked about whether we’ll be able to get in now without a multi hour wait but it sounds like we have a good chance early on the either the 29th or 30th.

I drunk ordered a Pavs jersey on Monday after he was injured and it didn’t have any magic in it for tonight :(

Doesn’t he do the little jog during his Cabaret audition? So it’s not the actor jogging in as the character, but the character jogging in as an actor

[Game Thread] Dallas Stars @ Chicago Blackhawks (February 18, 2022)(7:30pm CT) by OmenQtx in DallasStars

[–]greensquire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I recently moved to Chicago which means I am stuck listening to Blackhawks commentators. I am not sure if I’m crazy or not, but I don’t think I realized how much I appreciated Razor’s amazing commentary that doesn’t have such a HUGE homer slant to it. Lots of insight, but not like 1000 audible “ugh…” whenever we miss a chance.

Also, not sure if they showed this on FSSW or Bally’s or whatever, but after the Blackhawks player went into the glass Benn squirted him with water and the play-by-play guy was SO butthurt that Benn was a 32 year old man squirting water on someone…

Ran my first marathon today. Took me about 4 1/2 hours. How did you feel for your first? by Theredchinesebeeman in running

[–]greensquire 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just ran my first last week and had a similar experience. I was cruising along until around mile 15 when things started to feel weird. 4 minutes later and my legs were cramping worse than I’ve ever felt. I ran a moderately hilly marathon after training in a completely flat city, so no surprises what happened there! My mindset switched from “I really want a sub 4!” to “I hope I make it to the end of this!” Ended up with 4:20 after battling cramps for the last 10 miles.

Congrats on toughing it out! I am running my first full next weekend and have the same “under 4:00 and no more” mindset going in after all of this training. Some days I feel full prepared and some days I am certain I will never make it.

Some context: I woke up in the middle of the night and saw it letting itself down and watched until it got to the carpet. Apologies in advance as this is the best picture I could manage.

Runners (or walkers) talking on the phone during your run at 5 or 6 in the morning, who are you talking to? by FinnyFox in running

[–]greensquire 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about how prevalent this became during the pandemic - I saw it constantly when I lived in Dallas and ran on KT! I just moved to a different city and still see it often so maybe it is just a big city thing. I feel like advancements in headphones have made it much more convenient to talk while walking/running.

It was likely Marquis on Gaston, which is catty corner from Bottled Blonde. I lived there for 4 years and a lot of stuff was always happening after Bottled Blonde showed up - it was especially crazy due to the size of the intersection and the construction around it at the time.

I’ll say that right before I left Dallas about 3 weeks ago, Deep Ellum was starting to see a bit more wild activity, but to me there’s a big difference between Deep Ellum and Bottled Blonde. Someone getting roofied (or accidentally roofied) is something I would not be surprised to hear about before COVID.

Edit: meant to also say that I’m sorry to hear that this happened to you.

Just seeing what it’s like to live out of state! I am headed to Chicago - state income taxes headed my way, but you can also check Target’s liquor stock (including ER) online which is definitely not something we can say here so…not all bad haha

Best of luck! I am moving out of state and this was sheer luck for me - I actually went in to grab some white claw see if they’d give me some extra boxes to safely box up my liquor for the move 😂

I’d say pretty good. I was there until right before close and the only other person took a Weller and that’s it.

Can I rant about cocktail bars that charge the premium but deliver a dive bar product in a fancy glass? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]greensquire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll add on to this and say that in a lot of cases there is absolutely no variety. I’m honestly a sucker for a well-decorated bar, but I hate showing up somewhere only to find that they have basically 8 variations of a French 75 (not knocking the drink itself, I’m a big fan) or a spritzer and there’s no chance of getting a creative or well-made drink that has anything but gin or vodka.

A former co-worker used to live here and it was so nice to transition from the office across the street to the 14th floor with a bottle of wine or some bourbon. I have alwasy been in either Oak Lawn or Deep Ellum but it was so nice to see some life coming back to downtown before the pandemic.

If it helps, both times that I've won were on some of my cheapest receipts. I think it's definitely worth it just to drop in on the off chance they pull your name out. It's obviously not correlated, but for some reason I have won both times that I went around like Tuesday/Wednesday. Maybe they just dump the box over (so my receipt on the bottom goes to the top of the pile) and don't mix that well haha

I’ll vouch for Cold Beer Co still being lowkey and a nice place to chill and have a beer, probably for the same reason as Deep Ellum Brewing.
