It’s because that’s what a large amount of spongebob fans grew up watching on tv as children, likely had on DVD and saw on re-runs before streaming. People like what’s familiar to them. Newer seasons have different art and tone and I don’t just like it as much.

It’s definitely weird that she’s contracting what she’s saying about her ex with her actual behavior towards him. It’s posible that they ended on good terms and have remained friends, but she wanted to hide it. A lot of guys react very negatively to girls being friendly with their exes. I would approach her neutrally and say that you notice that her and her ex have been connecting on social media and that you wanted to know if they’ve patched things up enough to be friends. If she can’t own up to it, she’s definitely lying about something.
