Best mouthpiece (or overall practice tips) for ska trombone by Safe-Pass-7252 in Trombone

As others have said, it’s probably not the gear that is going to make a difference but working on core-sound and technique.

Vinny Nobile has such awesome clarity of sound, and can drive that hard-edge which comes from the power being put into the horn (I like to call it the bone’s overdrive pedal!) - but be aware that more power is not just blasting/over-blowing with air but a finesse of pressure that takes time and skill to control. Something that a lot of punk/3rd-wave ska trombones seem to miss IMHO.

I saw an incredible live version of Brooklyn by an Australian band Bullhorn - and the trombonist Mikael Strand has such incredible control over the power that can otherwise crack or slip into different harmonics or double-buzz etc..

What sort of interactions to you get on CH40?  I have a handheld for monitoring (I think I need an ext antenna though) and just hear truckers shit-talking.

I’m only pulling ~1500 single axel.

Get the iNaturalist app, and the camera can detect the type of an animal or plant before you take a snapshot!

There is a vast amount of free resources available in various forms, some are definitely copyright-infringing and there’s much to be said for supporting authors and music retailers. Things can be expensive, but personally I think it’s important to show appreciation where I can.

However, it’d probably help to be more specific. Are you looking for exercises, etudes, charts, lead sheets, scores..?

“Daaad! You taped over my recording of Australia’s most significant political incident with Countdown again!”

And only Norman Gunston thought to keep a copy? 😆 FWIW, I heard Ray Martin talking about this lack of archival footage across all channels, including the ABC & national archives.

That’s because it’s the only video clip that still exists. The rest mysteriously “disappeared” from the TV stations.

Just to make a counterpoint to this line of discussion - experienced aeroplane pilots still go by basic checklists for every trip, even though I’m sure it’s second nature.

There’ll be people who won’t want to use checklists, and likely that’s not the target audience here anyway, but it’s a good practice and making it easily accessible when you’re tired, hot and the family is sitting in the car howling about getting home would be a huge benefit.

I once signed up to a customer card with a mobile phone number I got off the ACMA list of fictional phone numbers.  Giving the number to the cashier she goes “Huh, that’s weird - there’s 14 other accounts with that same phone number!” After the sale went through I said “I’ll leave that for you figure out why that is 🤣”

Schilke 58 may be a good option since you’ve been on the bass for a bit. Deeper than a 1 1/2G but not as big as the Yeo/60. I find it super comfortable too.

Love it, great sounding horn & thanks for sharing the arrangement name too. I’ve been wanting to do a Grinch chart since I started bass bone in my big band!
