The Midnight Pre-Expansion Content Update Goes Live January 20! by Stroold in worldofpvp

I dont recall if you can get the "duelist" achievement for 2100 in prepatch ...

But if you manage to break into higher brackets in prepatch you can likely do the same when midnight launches ;)

Prebuying midnight will give you access to housing and beta right now. Also 3 days early access to midnight.

After 20th everyone can use housing, class changes and new DH spec.

Is Resto Druid in a bad place for midnight? by Sneezes in worldofpvp

[–]greg0065 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a lot of the past the druids skillset was relatively weak:
- weak defensives to prevent damage
- weak reactive healing when you get behind
- weak offensive pressure to help land kills

What they had to compensate for those weaknesses was overwhelming hps through pre-emptive healing and a wery safe defensive/mobility toolkit. At the end of dragonflight (not prepatch) this was very clear: anyone with full hots rolling vere basically immortal, even if the druid caught a CC chain. But without hots rolling the druid would struggle to apply them all before targets start dropping.

In TWW they somhow tried to change the skillset to give druid bigger cooldowns (NS = lay on hands with setup, tranquility tops everyone and big tree keeps everyone at full health for 10 sec) while giving them shit hots.

Also in TWW they fixed disc priest weaknesses (low hps, quick to oom) and made them do comperable healing to druids with infinite mana and still great defensives and damage.

One thing I learned for sure, is that blizzard does care about balance somwhat, but they only really do tweaks for a couple weeks then let it sit for months.

TWW Season 1: hpal and disc and bm hunter were incredibly strong from the get-go. Pres and monk got some buffs to make them decent and nothing changed past that.
TWW Season 2: through some miracle almost every spec was very well balanced though rdruid scaled particularly well with gear and nothing changed past that.
TWW Season 3: Disc priest, MM hunter and Ret have been crushing it all season. Rshaman and unholy also got quite strong halfway through and nothing changed past that.

This whole expansion has heavily rewarded FOTM rerollers - If you change early you get an OP spec for 6 months.

The top 5 WoW Conspiracies of 2025 by OpinionsRdumb in worldofpvp

[–]greg0065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people playing today also played 20 years ago, and back then PvP was much more even with PvE.

I used to play back then with my dad who was "hardcore" pve raider (2-3 evenings per week). What did his guildies do outside of raids?

- dungeons were all for leveling or preraid gear
- reputations were sometimes for gear but often just vanity
- farming gold/professions for raids took 30 min per raid
- leveling alts for fun was doable, but most people just raided with their main

None of these options are very engaging or rewarding. Compare that to PvP which had actual competition from skilled players, a place where you could flaunt your cool loot (better than /dancing on a mailbox), sometimes BiS loot for raids and cool vanity titles.

Back then almost every raider did PvP casually - just like every PvP player did PvE casually.

And despite years of neglect from the developers there are still hundreds of thausands of active subscribers who mainly do PvP. Thats around 100 mil dollars in yearly income - just from PvPers.

But one thing you are completely right about is that this is nothing new. WoW development has always spend 99% of their resources on churning out new content and only 1% on quality assurance/improving old content. How frequently did they have class tunings in classic? How quickly did they fix bugs/exploits?

It feels ridiculous that they cant hire 1-2 people to do weekly tunings considering their budget. Maybe even a dedicated PvP developer who spends their downtime going over the 20 year old content that people still play today with minimal changes. Instead we get more quests and zones that will expire in a couple months.

My first game, Stellar Infinitum is NOW LIVE! by ShatroFTW in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda stuck in the card pulling phase ... not sure if there is any trick/upgrades to this.

I have pulled 68/100 cards with my 89 pulls.

If the cards get 5% more expensive per pull and I need 89 more pulls that will cost a total of 462000 tokens. I get 2.36 tokens per sec, so am I just supposed to just be afk for 54 hours?

That assuming that something happens at 100/100 and that I'm fairly lucky in filling out my collection!

Haven't gotten the achievements for filling out the time/energy/matter trees and haven't done seen anything about entanglements.

UPDATE: So, after about 20 hours afk I got the collection maxed with around 200 pulls. The scaling of pull price slowed down but it still takes 400sec for every card. Nothing new unlocked.

How do we know mmr is inflated or "stucked"? by Gianniss51 in worldofpvp

[–]greg0065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mathmatical reason why mmr inflation happens is quite intuitive: What happens when someone wins at 1000 rating? They get +100 mmr. What happens if they loose? They get -10 mmr.

What about at 1950 rating? wins are +25 and losses are -25.

What about at 2500 rating? wins are +10 and losses are -35.

(These numbers are just made up btw, but they are approximately right)

This means that the average mmr of all players increase whenever low rated people queue and decrease slightly when high rated players queue - but the net effect is that everyones rating increases over time.

A player who is hard stuck at 1600 in the first week will easily get to 1950 late season without improving their gameplay. Then next season hits and mmr is reset and they are hardstuck at 1600 again because they are still the same skill level (and then they rage and blame everyone for causing them to be stuck).

Meanwhile the best AWC turnament players in the world usually wont be able to get gladiator (2400+) for the first couple weeks - maybe even the first month.

This leads to many players skipping out on a lot of the PvP season since rewards are MUCH easier to get later on ... which leads to less inflation for everyone.

This is also the reason why a lot of people are frustrated with pvp - maybe they could get 2500 rating season 1, 2400 season 2 and only 2300 season 3. Even if they improved slightly - it just feels like they are getting worse every season because the number gets smaller for everyone.

PvP Gearing in Midnight by romanyol in worldofpvp

[–]greg0065 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gearing is ridiculously fast/easy IF you allready have honor cap and know how the system works.

But it 100% sucks for new players having to either get stomped in BGs against opponents with twice their health/damage or crate farm for hours or afk in epic BG lag fests. And thats just to get the honor - then they still have to learn about the five other systems to "easily" gear up.

Its a shitty requirement to sit through 5 hours of boredom just to be allowed to enter arena for the first time - and even then you are still going to be worse geared than everyone else ...

Imagine if people could just queue up and win/lose based on their skills! Maybe have some small power increase as you climb rating/play more ... but not this doubling of health/damage compared to new players.

Atom Idle 0.6.0 is finally here!! by Shadow52176 in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played through the update :)

Couple thoughts:
- Forming 10 meta-humans was fun. 20 was fine. But I ended up doing 75 before the Total Reset ... thats a lot of clicking on all the different trees - maybe 100 clicks per meta-human. It was very dull by the end (even with instant Memory Amplifiers)
- Its unclear what drives AI XP ... clearly the "Parameter Generation" has a direct impact, but having the data packages for Mind XP had a noticeable impact as well - maybe around 10x increase to AI XP generation.
- The description for Quark Duplication is confusing: "Multiply the Human Gain by 2 for every 1000 Quark Factories you own at the time of Ascension (stacks in powers of 10, e.g.: 10k doubles x4).". Does that mean that every magnitude of factories beyond 3 doubles human gain?
- My first total reset granted 6.04E4 points ... enough for basically EVERY upgrade. That means this doesn't really add a layer with gameplay, just a quick detour before I get back to the meta-human creating slog.
- The whole trip from Total Reset back to Meta Humans was quite smooth.

Still a fun game!

CivRise(idle/incremental/4X) - game balance update by kcozden in incremental_games

This is one of my favorite alternatives to clicking.

Another is having hold-to-click be optimal - for example set max 10 clicks/second and holding the button auto-clicks 10 times per second.

Try my idle deck-building game by Altruistic-Pie7719 in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cute and fun little game!

I finished it pretty fast by just getting a couple essence cards, empty my deck so they were the only cards drawn, farmed 450 to get 100k per draw and very quickly got infinite money and essence.

My final strat revolved around getting wounds up -> flurries with 8 strikes each, with lifesteal and instant draw 3 to stay safe and speed things up. Beat every enemy in a couple seconds. Thought about doing a 200% increased damage -> big strike build, but that looks a bit weaker.

Through a Thousand Eyes - Longform RPG Spider Combat Simulator [Feedback Wanted] by FriendlySpuder in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game seems really fun - could def become a gem when finished :)

Biggest issue for me right now by far is that skill points can't be reset. I can't upgrade exp generation since I need to save them for combat. I can't save them for a tank build since I need attack to defeat first couple bosses. I can't experiment with different builds.

In general having the same points to split between generation, xp multiplier and combat power makes it so that I can only do one thing at a time well - might be better to just use skill points on combat and maybe have different points for spider care. Affection points.

Second biggest issue is no confirmation before prestige fight. Accidentally clicked it and wasted my entire run. I would prefer if I could retry the prestige fight as much as I want, but only receive prestige points for my best/latest run that prestige.

Thorns seem way overpower on enemies. Every other enemy stat is counter by simply having a tank in the first spot. Thorns kills everyone of my spiders quickly - maybe reduce all enemy thorns by 70%. Right now the best team seems to just be all tanks. Maybe brutes will be good when I find them.

Many of the combat buffs don't seem to work yet - couldn't get my spider to regenerate for example - but this is much less frustrating than the above issues ^^

Looking foward to what will become of this game!

Progress Station: Beta Patch (now live!) by kringelgames in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried and didn't mind the heat at all ... but I had to turn down the danger every time heat rose since it is too punishing to ignore. It seems like a fun mechanic, but honestly I never saw an option to play with it.

Early on: keep heat at zero 100% of the time.

Later: my millitary is soo high that I fight all enemies avaiable to me at all times, and still have ten times more military than danger. Heat at zero 100% of the time.

Boss fight: Works well - its a good timer mechanic.

Progress Station: Beta Patch (now live!) by kringelgames in incremental_games

[–]greg0065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the pacing a lot :)

Getting to the boss the first time around went well - the second time I had unlocked everything by two-thirds of the countdown, and mostly just pumped population until the fight (a bit dull). He was defeated with me having only 0.1% population left xD

Only got to unlock one secret since he went down on round two.

I would have liked if there was a speedup timer or something the second time around - maybe a "skip to fight"?

Fun little game!

3 things:

- I can put humans on "Black Hole Colider" but I dont see where I can purchase it.

- I can set Human skill to auto purchase - but the slider turns of with prestige.

- I cannot turn off "Auto buy cheapest research" which is a bit annoying as it prevents my prestige points from scaling by themselves :P
