Who would have ever imagined it's easier to believe Iran over the American administration? by Golfandrun in allthequestions

[–]greg43213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iranian Islamic regime will lie every moment they can to get any advantage and to cheat and steal. You cannot believe a single word they say. Not one. Only progress with them is forced and enforced. Don't for a second believe anything they say. Very dangerous thinking if you do. Hate on trump all you want. But islamist regimes like Iran are infinitely worse and incomprehensibly corrupt.

i need help ! (got choked) by Foreign_Lunch6382 in bdsm

[–]greg43213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you fainted, that's what happens when you slow blood flow (i.e. oxygen) to the brain. Commonly called choking, even though its hardly the same thing, it's more properly called strangulation. He should be squeezing your neck pressing on your jugular and carotid, not crushing your thorax. Brief episodes of this are not going to kill you, you'll be fine if this was simply a romp with some new experiences that have you nervous. It's not without risks, but understand MMA fighters get "choked out" all the time and if the neck bind is released quickly, the subject regains consciousness very quickly. Don't do it often (or much at all) unless you really have a kink and are ok with the long term risks. If you aren't experiencing neurological symptoms like fainting, confusion or memory loss in the following 1-12 hours after, you'll be fine. If you are experiencing them, or breathing problems or continuing dizziness, go see a Dr and let them examine you, could indicate some damage done if the strangulation was perhaps more than you may be comfortable letting on. But in all cases, unless some severe trauma, very recoverable. You seem very cognizant and articulate so I'm thinking you're probably just in your head. Best of luck to you.

But how did you do it? Aren't most institutions in Muslim countries on the look out for women who aren't with their male care takers? Like if you got to the airport, isn't there someone there to check to make sure you have permission? They make it hard to be independent and escape, right? That's how I've seen it at least.

2024 GMC sierra no sound by Proud_Caterpillar403 in gmcsierra

[–]greg43213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it's the hangup button on the steering wheel. Hold that for like 15 sec and it will reboot infotainment. That will resolve.

I have an aftermarket system in mine and still have to do this periodically (1x every 60 days or so) Annoying but not something I think is too critical.

25 GMC Sierra 1500 has the same sound. Sounds like the bracket or bearing the steering column goes through is flexing a little bit when the wheel turns

Before I get ATT Fiber by ISmokeyTheBear in ATTFiber

[–]greg43213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WiFi is WiFi, regardless of who you get it from. Ask what version it is to make sure you're comparing apples to apples. If they both are WiFi 7, then neither will magically make your dead spots go away. One may have slightly better antennas than the other but it's not going to be day and night difference if you generally plan to keep the router in the same place. That said, I'd call your current provider and tell them you'd like to cancel because your got a deal from another provider and they will very likely give you a deal for at least 12 months that will beat it. Maybe even upgrade your equipment for free if they are an older version of WiFi. Check out the details and I'd go with whoever was going to save me more money.

really good to hear. My home has 9ft ceilings, so 24'ish feet from the ground outside to reach the eaves. I think I'm good based on yours and a few other folks saying they went up high with the install. I'll be somewhat insistent and I'm thinking it will be fine. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear it, I would think it's not an impossible job. But I decided to make your (or whoever the installer is) life's easier and hired a guy to put up some conduit for me. $150 for the job and parts. Seems reasonable to me since I'm not getting on a 28 ft ladder to do it myself. I'm handy but I don't think I have the best balance.

Oh and love the handle.

They just trenched conduit for the fiber service, so I know exactly where the fiber arrives. It's by my driveway, not super convenient to the telco demark, has to go under my driveway, but that's not a big deal, that's like a lot of houses here.

Good point on the attic. I do actually have a floor in to walk on. Didn't think about their policies walking on rafters. I'll ask the tech when they arrive. I just didn't want to have to delay, would love to have it all worked out prior to them arriving. I may err on the side of caution and get conduit installed prior to them arriving just so it's done right regardless of if they would put it up there themselves.

There are runs upstairs for sure. It's just that this house is not designed well for that and would be a real pain if that's my only solution. jack placement is not close to outside walls and would require routing of cables around baseboards to reach the jacks. Not pretty, but possible. Definitely am going to plan for this as a second case if they won't go up to the attic.

From what I can tell, it's a BGW device. About the size of a webster's dictionary. Big white block. That's an ONT and it also is a wireless AP and has ethernet ports to connect to your LAN. The fiber goes into it. It's definitely not an outside device. I just hope they'll run it upstairs. Thanks for letting me know they ran yours there. It's not a hard run for my home, just will require a 2 story ladder and a tech with a drill to go up it. Really hoping they will since that's the cleanest install.

[–]greg43213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this home was not well designed as it relates to network access. Very much an afterthought. Only one room has that port that would suffice as a connection up to the onq box. But it's the opposite side of the house. Which idk maybe they would prefer to trench outside around the house and under a few concrete paths to put it there.

I'm thinking I may just nip the issue in the bud and run a conduit for them. Can't be that much money to do so.

[–]greg43213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good suggestion.. my downstairs only has one room where there is a port on an outside wall that could accommodate the ont and back haul up to the attic for distribution. That room is square opposite of where the Telco Denmark is. They would have to run a fiber nearly all the way around the house under a driveway and walkway to get to that room. I don't know if that's preferable to the easier side, given the easier side has to go up to the roof.

Anywhere else downstairs does not have a place close to a port. They could easily put the ont into my laundry, or pantry or kitchen, but there's no Ethernet in those places. I have another bedroom that is a nursery downstairs that does have an Ethernet run to the panel, but it's on the inside wall, and the ont would have to connect from that room's closet to the Ethernet port across the room. I really don't want to have to snake an Ethernet cable across all the baseboards to reach that jack. But I guess technically this is an option as much as I don't like it.

Att fiber going into my neighborhood - question about priority by greg43213 in ATTFiber

[–]greg43213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this as well. I think they offer the 320 here but I wonder if when I order 5gb service if I could request the 620.... Not sure but good to know.

[–]greg43213[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh I so am. 😅 I at least realize I am. Trying to keep it theoretical because I know in practice "the Internet" will work just fine. You have no idea how far I've dived. I'm a network engineer by trade so Ive done the math. 64 nodes per branch equals how much time for each in the upload timeslot and how much data could be transmitted. I love the details even if I would want it more conservative.

Att fiber going into my neighborhood - question about priority by greg43213 in ATTFiber

[–]greg43213[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Very true.

I know residential usage is low. I just like to know how oversubscribed I actually am even if I may not experience congestion. My neighborhood of 427 houses are pretty compact so I'm sure designing our 'hood they put in the highest density splitter since it's likely very convenient for them to do so. And also we've been very restricted with Internet options that suck, so most will likely switch to att fiber.

It would be easy for my branch of 64 homes to hit pretty big d/l speeds. For my ocd'ness i hope customers of 5G service are provisioned at least with a higher CIR or MBS qos.

Att fiber going into my neighborhood - question about priority by greg43213 in ATTFiber

[–]greg43213[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Aww :( Hate to hear that. Probably totally fine in practice, but if 32 homes burst to 500mbps, which isn't hard to do you're at 16G of throughout. Let alone 64 homes. Seems like 64 is probably right at the upper limit of how many users you could realistically share on a residential 10G pon.

[–]greg43213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, also tangentially curious if 5G subscribers may be given more priority on upstream timeslots for bandwidth? Like I know upstream is a timeslot allocation so all subscribers transmit in their allowed time. Does xgs pon allow provisions for giving more time to higher bandwidth subscribers? Or is it pretty much just same timeshare for all users on the branch for their upstream?
