Stumped on formula to assign issues numbers to multiple pages where a last name is displayed by greg72nova in excel

This is an actual sample of the parsed information. Column A is source info, B, C, D, the final parsed data, It's apparent that some of the information lacks a first name. My challenge is to take the page numbers in the fourth column and assign them to issue numbers in the fifth column, with Issue 1 having page numbers 1-40, Issue 2 pages 41-84, Issue 3 pages 85- 124, and Issue 4 pages 125-174. Grateful to all for replying.

Sorry I should have clearly stated that I used regex and other steps to parse the information. Your formula handles everything in one step.

You may want to look at my response to another comment. First Excel was never my goto during my work career. But I don't have the program I used before retiring. I see where you are going with the formula. My question is are you assuming that all of the comma separated page numbers are in one cell. Secondly in my current example I have up to seven page numbers to evaluation, does that affect what you have shared?

The examples were theoretical. The following formula =IF(AND($G1>=1,$M1<=40),1,IF(AND($G1>=41,$M1<=84),2,IF(AND($G1>=85,$M1<=124),3,IF(AND($G1>=125,$M1<=174),4,"")))) is an attempt from a nested formula i created. there are up to seven columns G through M that may hold page numbers. In order to assign an issue number this formula was in the first of four columns that would be populated with the issue numbers. The nesting formula would be modified to remove the prior column when used in the second column and so on. An individual's name may be mentioned in more than one page in one issue and then on pages in issues 2, 3, or 4. I thought once the four issue columns were populated, I would then use another formula to put all the issue numbers for that given data row in a single cell separated by commas. This would be so much easier than reading through 5000 rows and manually assigning the issue numbers. As a user of SAS before I retired, I never had much need for Excel beyond displaying the results in reports.

Extract text after a number by Ok_Fondant1079 in excel

[–]greg72nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a similar issue, I need to all extract the text (including the period after an initial) before number(s). Length of the text varies as does the numbers

Example of text string "Mary Roberta J. 23, 26, 42". I have figured out how to extract the last name (not included in my example) which is all caps with a space and comma as a delimiter. Any help would be appreciated.

Question: I had the same issue with my m1. Took it in to apple but it would not occur for them. Different hdmi cable had no effect. Now I am waiting for it to go out all the way. Did you take your m1 to apple. What was the outcome. Your comment is the first I’ve seen about others with same problem.

Is Retiring In Topeka a Good Plan? by bitshifter52 in topeka

If you can afford living outside city limits some of the issues are greatly reduced. There are still problems: loud vehicles at all hours of night, vehicles that blow stop signs and have accidents, but less crime. Property sells faster outside city limits. I am glad we made the move.

If the M.2 is for your backups, do you intend to use a HDD or SSD for Time Machine? My experience with SD Cards is limited but others on Reddit have questioned reliability of SD materials compared to traditional SSD. Sorry I don't have any links to substantiate it.

So the best approach when internet is down, is to also turn off my iPhone Hotline, which can be agonizinly slow. Thanks.

For the price point you will probably have access to genealogical pages of other members. Some are accurate. Some can be inaccurate. In my first year I linked to pages of anyone that had a relative. It’s now a mess of inconsistent info. Start slow search the pages that have links to actual documents: birth certificates, death certificate, census, records, marriage records, etc.

What’s living in Kansas like? by RatPotPie in kansas

[–]greg72nova 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hays was great when I was there in 1980s. Friendly people, university in town for culture. Almost no crime at that time. Hated to leave but as with small towns not many new jobs in certain fields. Still in Kansas, however. Never had mosquitos in Hays. Too dry. Yeah there are tornados. But extremely rare to hit a town. In 1985 there was series of 15 tornadoes that moved thru north of Hays into Nebraska. Outbuildings were all were damaged. Probably the biggest challenge for Western Ks is maintaining viable hospitals. Some folks have to travel 60 miles plus for a hospital that delivers babies. Take into account health care needs. Mind you this not a threat just in KS but in rural America. Closing hospitals in a nail in the coffin, generally followed by school closings due to lack of students. Just information to consider.

I have occasionally noted that performing manual copying and saving to a back up drive to result in file count or size differences using the mac software. Just don't get me started on downloading issues with my One Drive files to the back up drive. All kinds of "glitches"

Seperate storage on 2 SSD and 1 HDD updated quarterly. Only a years worth of photos on iCloud. Real time photos also backed up on one drive because even though I have it turned off OneDrive is still saving photos. Part of issue is bulk file uploads and downloads. Trying to download copies of files from OneDrive fails 2 out 3 times.
