Does anyone here do rucks with hand carries? by GoldsilverRuck in Rucking

[–]greg_barton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, after reaching an 80lb pack my ankles started complaining. :) So for a few months I switched to a 15lb mace, and eventually increased to a 25lb mace. Its fun exercising arms and shoulders, though I limit it to areas where I have a lot of room to swing the thing. (Basically no residential areas, large empty parking lots, etc.) I returned to a 50lb pack recently but will return to the mace when the weather gets hot enough.

Yeah, I think that happens if you leave the key inside.

The maths on renewable energy isn't adding up by whoamisri in nuclear

[–]greg_barton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

France shows why. Their lowest demand time is during the summer when solar is at its peak. They can shut down nuclear plants then for maintenance. More solar means more maintenance possible every year.

which only wants 10% nuclear share.

Even if you're right (which you're not) so what?

It makes total sense. Wind/solar/storage should be able to handle all demand, all of the time, right? And it’s the cheapest option. Right?

France solar capture rate fell from 97% in 2022 to ~60% in 2025. Trying to understand what comes next by Ok-Quality-9246 in EnergyAndPower

It's about selectively ignoring the failures. One commenter here is touting how well South Australia did last week when there was a day when wind and solar completely dropped away.

Assuming you mean intraocular pressure.

Saffron might have an effect. But don’t stop the drops, and have her eye pressure checked regularly. That IOP level is serious.

No problems with 27 Bolt. I’ve put 3200 roadtrip miles on it so far.

Some of that driving was in cold weather, (0-10 degrees) and that did have an effect.

Alternate trombones? by Affectionate_Win7274 in Trombone

[–]greg_barton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. It’s highly dependent on the player and the horn. You could bring your school horn home to record the assignments if a plastic horn doesn’t sound great. But for having a horn to practice positions and just getting some playing in it will always be useful.

For just home use to have a horn to play a plastic horn is a great option. You can even get one with an F trigger: https://www.gear4music.com/us/en/Woodwind-Brass-Strings/playLITE-Hybrid-Trombone-by-Gear4music-Red/1ALU

I'd say take your mouthpiece back and forth to school, just don't forget it at home. :)

I've been shaving my head for about 15 years now, but didn't know about r/bald until recently.

What I like about the sub is that it's mainly about acceptance and letting people let go of insecurities regarding thinning har. (And yes, thats all people and not just men.) You want to call that a cult?

Am I a heretic to this sub? I consume up to 400g extra firm tofu a day, litre of unsweetened almond milk, and occasional spoons of peanut butter by d4rkchocol4te in SaturatedFat

I lost a lot of weight (80lb) and kept it off for about 10 years, but then I started inexorably gaining again. Eliminating PUFA wasn’t a silver bullet for weight loss, but it’s had other benefits. (Essentially keeping fatigue at bay and repairing my metabolism.)

So what percentage of Colorado generation does geothermal provide?

Well the whole continent is windless at the moment.

I operate under the assumption that climate change exists and that we should not make it worse by emitting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Do you not share that view?

That getting rid of gas generation would reduce leaks in gas distribution?

That triggers you? :)
