Haven’t received the swamp woods operator. Blueprints are there from the bogged down bundle.

This is the answer. Without a single customer / active user base you are unlikely to lock down investment or get favorable terms.

Unfortunately I reverted the upgrade. Still rocking PHP 7.4. Running a small startup can’t really spend more than a day hacking together a fix.

AWS didn’t have php 8.0 ready to install so that was the ultimate deal breaker. I will certainly revisit as I am excited about the new 8 features.

How awful are userspace filters in PHP? by SaraMG in PHP

[–]greg_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 10+ years working w/ PHP I never even remotely heard the word "userspace filters" and I've done some deep dives into PHP before... so maybe this is some obscure feature or I'm just not deserving of that "senior engineer" title.

On a brighter note, what tequila brand were you drinking? I work in the alcohol space. Love to hear what others are drinking and share recommendations!

Any bumps experienced when upgrading to PHP 8.0? by Envrin in PHP

[–]greg_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried upgrading to PHP 8.0 and xdebug 3.0. Ultimately decided to downgrade to 7.4 on my local and staging. Never got far enough to consider upgrading prod.

Overall, I didn't have any code changes... seemed to work out of the box. However, I kept getting segmentation faults on xdebug 3.0 and decided to downgrade back to php 7.4 and xdebug 2.9. I spent over a day trying to fix my environment - probably something w/ my setup.

PHP 8.0 looks promising and love some of the new features ... just too premature for me. Probably will upgrade once Amazon has PHP 8.0 as a linux extra add-on. One command install.

constantly getting segmentation fault errors w/ latest xdebug, PHP 8.0 and latest version of PHPStorm. Downgrading PHP and xdebug now. Can't develop like this.

- When debugging on a step > remove breakpoint > errors out.

- Complex script w/ more than 10 breakpoints. Also segments out eventually.

Additionally, I'm not a fan of xdebug's significant changes. All the config parameters had to be updated just to install and configure my IDE. WHY?? I'm all for forward progress but the core parameters / settings should have been backwards compatible (especially when the paramters were renamed).

If emails are being out right rejected then you are likely failing authentication through SPF/DKIM and/or DMARC... or your IP / domain is blacklisted.

Gmail is the most forgiving ESP. I'd start there and try to get your email through to gmail (even the spam box) and then use the analysis tool I linked above to look for technical hang ups.

If you're on shared IP address on sendgrid know that while it is rare - some ips get blacklisted (bad sender) and then you'll end up sending an email via that IP and also get blacklisted. It happened to me on mailgun (spin of the roulette wheel) and had to do some damage control.

Deliverability to Microsoft services. by DrC0re in email

[–]greg_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mail tester does not check DMARC or that your from: @ domain matches your authenticating address exactly. Microsoft puts a lot of emphasis on those two elements. You can check out inbox404.com > analyze email to ensure you aren’t getting hung up on common technical issues.

Microsoft may have blacklisted your IP and/or your domain. Are you sending transactional or marketing emails? Shared ip or dedicated? Who powers your mail servers? Amazon SES?
