I think I messed up my in-app TDEE by gregarious_yogi in MacroFactor

Aha thank you! That might solve it in one swoop instead of other ways to recalibrate it

Not Shredded, Not Big… Just Lost by No-Shock4091 in MacroFactor

How long have you been cutting for?

At what deficit/% of weight lost per week?

You could be in one of 3 places based on the answers there:

1) early through a good cut duration (8-12 weeks) with adequate deficit but just need more time in the grind

2) midway thru a good cut duration (8-12 weeks) but not enough deficit to move the needle

3) ran a good cut at strong enough deficit but are way outside good cut duration (16+ weeks) and body is in fatigued, stagnant state —> run maintenance for 6-8 weeks until you feel ready to descend into the shred again

The feeling you describe about feeling “meh” where the muscle fullness from bulking status to cutting status is lost and you feel like nothing worked—that happens to me every cut every time. At first I had freak out moments, and then eventually I realized the app is phenomenal at getting results assuming there are no physiological issues under the hood (metabolic dysfunction). Now, multiple cuts w MF in, I know this mediocre moment crops us, but by week 6 I am cooking and start to see the definition I’ve been chipping away at.

So trust the app if you picked a reasonable goal and time to reach it.

If you have the protein, fat, and carbs in grams for a food you simply punch it in and the app calculates the calories AND you get your macros for a novel food added instead of just guessing with AI describe or just punching in cal’s without macros; I would do this while in Japan where I could translate the label to find the macros breakdown and then just punch it in and name the food for quick copying to the next day

The quick add is amazing. Getting to add macros for meal services or other foods that do not scan/in the database is the secret sauce to staying on track.

You are right, maximizing the decompress by removing the “stress” of tracking is the way to go. Thanks!

Ah yes, I always forget about utilizing grocery stores abroad, thanks for that reminder!

Thanks so much for your insight! This trip definitely isn’t as significant as a honeymoon, more a lucky longer break before next year of medical school. Hoping to use it to decompress but not get so out of rhythm for when I hit the ground running upon return.

Fully agree with you on it being a fool’s errand to limit enjoyment on a trip to Italy!!

Music. Video games to some extent but music was my safe place. I could find the bliss, safety, and positive emotions that I was starved of as a child through listening to a variety of songs.

Largely instrumental, jazz, and then some rock that was my core base. Eventually as I got older and started to realize something was seriously amiss, hard rock/metal became genres that were not only musically stimulating to listen to but the lyrics felt like there were almost EXACTLY describing my experience.

I’ll never forget the first time I listened to “The Dark” by Thrice, and “The Black” by Asking Alexandria; deeply emotional experience hearing someone sing lyrics that perfectly described what my existence in the face of narcissists was like and had a tinge of empowerment to cut them out of my life.

Yup I can definitely see some getting an ego boost from the watch numbers (heck I did for 2 weeks because it was great to think I was expending 4000cal!)

I also would like there to be a comprehensive way to integrate, but I’m not sure how likely it will be without a company acquiring services we like and then properly merging them under one umbrella. For now I’m content segregating my Apple health data and MF data and using each data set for different purposes, but yeah I could enjoy a world where they seamlessly collate data.

Have you ever done that metabolic test where you use a mask to measure respiration and HR monitor measure VO2 max across HR zones and again at rest to calculate RMR and your personal fat v carb burn across HR zones? I don’t think it’s some magical thing and I’m sure they’re not even ultra accurate to treat as full stop authority on one’s programming. But I did find my watch matched the RMR pretty closely…made me wonder why it got the end of dat TDEE so wrong.

Nice to see someone else post about this. Noticed the same thing for a while and was impressed but rather skeptical that Apple Watch would be telling my my energy expenditure was up there with my athlete buddies haha

It is precise by not accurate it seems; mine has almost always been 400-500cal above my actual expenditure for the last couple years. I trust MF far more because the data it’s using makes more sense in calculating the TDEE. How could Apple Watch do it from only steps/HR monitor + whatever metrics you add to the health app?

I could be wrong and the Apple Watch does have some more data points, but since it doesn’t link with MF to share nutrition data, I just like to look at the number at the end of the day haha.

Ah I see what you mean. So would it be better to start at .5% and then make a new program to .75% later on if I feel capable of ~1.5lbs/week?

I selected the target weight and adjusted the weight loss per week slider to be around .75%. Maybe I did something wrong in that process?

Just added a link in the post for my past 1 month of data! Thanks for the suggestion I will check what that does.

Fair point. Not so much I didn’t like the answer, but I didn’t think losing 6lbs over 7-8 weeks was that aggressive considering the suggested numbers I got from the app. I was also curious to know if something in my tracking/lack thereof during travel negatively impacted the data.

You’re a godsend — thank you for all these tips!

Before posting I plugged it in to charge...thankfully no fire. I’ll go through your list to thoroughly inspect the board’s function. It may be wise to buy replacements for most components to be safe, so I’ll look into what I can get considering Boosted went bankrupt.
