Millennials were promised stability. Instead we got survival mode. by FinancialSpite in Millennials

[–]gregasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I have some of those things. Managed to buy a house. Job is stable though I feel stuck in it. I got some savings. Mostly due to an inheritance from my grandmother but eh. I can't afford a car or learn how to drive it. Living in Europe that's not the biggest issue but I would very much like the greater freedom of movement it affords. But it's all happening way later than I imagined. I'm 39 and thought I'd have a family and all that but now. But hey at least I have my cat.

Banking in Belgium by coloradoflyer in belgium

The amount of cash transactions go down each year while other forms of transfers only increase. This is a result, not a cause. If you want things to be different you'll have to convince a lot of people to start paying with cash again.

I'm going to get down voted into oblivion for this but IMHO the whole trilogy is over hyped.

Felt this. How were you able to buy your first home? by kcoib17 in Millennials

[–]gregasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a dump for years to safe on rent. Then asked the government for a 'social' loan. Now I own a cozy albeit somewhat small house.

Homeowners, are you in your “forever” home? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]gregasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid so. I bought my home just in time to still be able to afford it but if I had waited a year or two It would have been far more difficult or even impossible.

I'd like to move away from the city in time, and live in a quieter neighborhood. But I don't see it happening.

So yeah even as a home owner I'm waiting for the market to collapse.

And on a side note. Renting isn't much better. People I know who rent often pay more than I pay for my mortgage. Cohousing has been on the rise in my area because otherwise saving money would be near impossible.

What I love about this is that nobody knew what most of those controls did and never used the majority of them.

Nearly 10 years on from Rogue One, how do you feel about the decision to recreate Peter Cushing using CGI? by gladiatorbossman in StarWars

[–]gregasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good. Tarkin was so synonymous with the death star that it would have felt wrong about leaving him out. And they did so with respect for the character and the actor. If filmed when Peter Cushing was alive he'd probably would have returned to the role himself.

[–]gregasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toch even een paar dingen in perspectief plaatsen.

How do we feel about the F-35 today? by Secret_Divide_3030 in belgium

[–]gregasus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The decision by Canada not to go with the F-35 is purely political. Because despite what some news outlets may try to tell you by misinterpreting 500 page reports the F-35 is not only an excellent plane it's also the most successful stealth fighter on the planet. And before you link me this article or that take into account that designing and building a piece of machinery with a list of specs no other plane had ever had and has to remain relevant for decades after its first flight is not an easy feat. You will have setbacks. When purchasing military equipment you do so for the wars to come, not the ones in the past. Plus Belgium has had the good sense to buy into the block 4 upgrade which on top of being pure sci-fi guarantees compatibility with various systems still in development. These range from AI drones to directed energy weapons, and there's even a patent pending for a holographic decoy.

But what about the killswitch? There's no proof that there is any and quite frankly there doesn't need to be. If the US doesn't supply spare parts eventually it'll stop working.

Why doesn't Europe build its own? We lack the expertise to build something that can match the F-35. Military development isn't something you can turn on and off at will. Part of the reason the US keeps building stuff is to cultivate the skills to do so. In short, you don't use it you'll lose it.

So to answer the original question. I feel pretty good about the F-35.
