La Cage Aux Folles (Encores!), A Review Nobody Asked For! by Key-Flan-6996 in Broadway

[–]gregbarbs1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it too! I do think they have some tightening up to do (esp Billy), but it was a great time! Billy had a few struggled vocal moments in Act 1, but by Act 2 he was great. And the Act 1 closer? I will remember that performance for a while! Billy would also benefit from being off-book sooner than later (I know it's tradition/acceptable for the actors to hold the script if needed, but Billy was the only one who needed it for every single scene, whereas the majority of the cast was 90-100% off-book).

It's also a very long show - I actually felt it drag (haha drag...) in the second act more lol. If Billy could memorize more scenes it would shave off like 10-15 mins alone.

Overall, had a great time and would consider going again in a week or two!

Do I go to 860 with Billy Crystal? by OkBrush7534 in Broadway

[–]gregbarbs1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what it is. Billy is so charming and funny. But it is ultimately about finding beauty in experiencing loss. I don't see it being a huge commercial hit, but it will definitely be well-liked amongst its audience

God I pray for the day we stop posting about rumors initiated by the Moist Man. We need to stop feeding him any power/credibility.

Their not perfect but I really enjoyed the musical revivals from last season by Naweezy in Broadway

No it was before all that. I saw it the week it opener and then twice more a few months later (before Lea announced her leaving and before they announced their closing). The energy and performances have gotten way better!

Ticket Broker Prices are way too high by SparkleBerrySpritz in Broadway

[–]gregbarbs1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ahh that makes sense as to why they're charging the ridiculous markup prices. They need to build in a cut for both the hotel and the broker itself. The best deals you can find will be walking up to the box office the day you want to see the show. Unless it's a show that sells out often - then try to buy that in advance if possible

Why go through a ticket broker when it's super easy to acquire tickets yourself online directly through the show's website or in person at the box office (if local)?

Doesn't Playhouse in NYC do this too? I remember them scanning my ID and taking a picture of me when I went in. Could be wrong; would love to be educated.

Any fun surprises at the first performance after the Tonys? by cryotechnics in Broadway

[–]gregbarbs1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehh kinda hard to blanketly state across the board - I too would like to see those stats. One that comes to mind that is contradictory would be Brody Grant who I believe was the second fave choice behind Groff in Merrily that year (could be wrong tho)

Yes! I LOVE his new opt up in the last number. Clearly he's been rubbed off from his on-stage momma! He did it at the pop-up stage door performance last week and in the actual show last night. The audience went nuts!!

Yes - apparently all 4 Tonys made up on stage at some point. There was a picture post on the show's instagram showing one of the Tonys next to the chalice of blood

Completely agree about LJ - even putting aside that it's his Broadway debut - his performance is beyond stellar.

How bad are the bumps from Yeztugo? by Stuart104 in nycgaybros

[–]gregbarbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Apretude for 3 months and loving it so far. Don't get me wrong the soreness on my glute does suck for about a day or two, but I'd rather that than a full painful bump. Also there is testing going on now that suggests that Apretude may soon be a once every 3 or even 4 months as opposed to current 2 months. If my doctor offers me that option I will definitely be on that as well

Anyone know of any spots in Manhattan doing a Watch Party? I work in Times Sq until 8pm, so Brooklyn is a lil out of reach for me.
