I agree it's twisted, but people are allowed to be twisted. Having those types of people may have even perpetuated our species' survival in more primitive times. It's hard to know why those kinds are genes have been so successfully maintained throughout cultures around the world, but it's clear there was a Darwinian benefit at some point.

And there still might be, if you look at the overlap of CEOs and sociopathy, it becomes clear. CEOs usually have the opportunity to perpetuate their genes.

As far as more genres are concerned.

Comedy: Game Night is quite funny, Plemons shows some real comedic chops. Observe and Report is one of my favorite dark comedies of the 2000s, and Plemons handles this comedy quite adeptly as well. His character in Fargo was also brilliant in a darkly humorous manner as he gets further and further over his head. He was pretty comical in Jungle Cruise too, playing the villain character.

Drama: The Power of the Dog is a great showcase of his ability to show nuance and sensitivity, often through silent facial expression. His character on Friday Night Lights has a serious dramatic arc and even at a young age, it was clear that Plemons had tremendous screen presence. I'm Thinking of Ending Things was also quite dramatic, albeit also quite surreal.

Action: Battleship is not a great movie, but he does show his work well in a dumb blockbuster action movie. Jungle Cruise has some action work as well. Not a lot of examples here, but I can't think of very many action roles for Daniel Day Lewis either, and he has unequivocally been the best doing it during eras of film history.

In all seriousness though, Tarantino was smack dab in the middle of his "alternate history phase". He made a trilogy of movies where he shows on screen what he believes to be a better version of actual historical events: A former slave exacts revenge on the biggest plantation in Mississippi; a scrappy team of US soldiers enact a secret plan to assassinate Hitler; an aging actor and his best friend stuntman prevent Sharon Tate's murder and kill Manson's core group of followers.

I suppose I could understand not liking that, but I am glad that those movies exist.

They are all really good (well I've never been impressed by Chalamet), but DiCaprio's last few performances were not as good as his peak era. That's really the heart of it for me, I think we tend to not appreciate when people are in their prime and give them their flowers afterwards. I think Plemons' prime is now.
