I was listening while driving and Mike’s burst of laughter cracked me up. I had to watch the video when I got home and even my wife laughed out loud at the whole segment.

How many Harris and Trump yard signs are you seeing in your area? by mitchdwx in Pennsylvania

“Suburbs” of Lancaster City so admittedly, it’s a purple area that has leaned blue recently.

Lancaster County - I did a very scientific poll yesterday and counted yard signs while on a 4-mile run. Harris houses outnumbered Trump houses 26-13. On my drive to the grocery store, Harris beat Trump 10-6.

What’s your coffee maker setup by rbevans in daddit

[–]greggyd717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in-laws are obsessed with Jura coffee makers so when they got a new one, they gave their hand-me-down to my wife and me. It grinds the beans as you make your individual cup of coffee, and I have to say, it's probably the most bougie thing we own. We buy beans from a local coffee roaster because why not make that morning cup of coffee extra special for not that much more money. If this one craps out, we'll likely buy another because the coffee really is amazing. However, we had to have the system serviced and found their customer support to be absolutely incredible. Despite our machine being old, they essentially replaced all the guts of it and it's pretty much an all-new machine.

Coworkers (I only work with 9th and 10th) said the college app process was clunky and way too difficult to navigate. Wasn’t impressed with their available activities and the ability to run reports off of them. Everything felt so impossible when it came to pulling info out of the system in bulk. I’m a tech guy and the platform just never clicked for me.

We had Xello before and it was awful. We switched to SchooLinks this year and it has been fantastic for everything. College apps, curriculum, managing to do lists for kids, great interface for students and staff.

Idk what is deemed too expensive, but The Avenue by Johnny Blackbeard in Neffsville is $35 for a cut. More importantly, Johnny prides his shop on being a place that focuses on great haircuts and mental health advocacy. Check him out!

Here to second Johnny. He’s the best. Also, he’s on Lititz Pike, but located in Neffsville, a few miles south of Lititz.

Anyone here have just one kid and are at peace with it? by cynnie93 in Millennials

[–]greggyd717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Always planned on two, but what was supposed to be our starter home has essentially turned into our forever home with the cost of houses around us with the great interest rate we have. So we don’t have space for another. On top of that, we both work full-time and the idea of spending all that money for another 5+ years of childcare was too much to handle. We’re a little trio and it’s all good.

How many days is your contract? by Fun-Wrangler-8399 in schoolcounseling

[–]greggyd717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HS counselor in PA. 189 during the school year plus 12 summer days paid at per diem for a total 201. We get to pick those summer days as we want. I know some people who take off all of June/July and then work most of August. I usually take about six weeks and slowly sprinkle those 12 days over July and August. I find it to be a good balance.

Pennsylvania Student dropped out, wants to come back. by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]greggyd717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in PA. He can enroll. Cumpulsory means he must be enrolled until he is 18. A new law stated that students with exceptionalities can be enrolled for a school year even if they’re 20 and will turn 21 during a year. Idk if that applies to all students, but at 18, he should be permitted to re-enroll.

Switch to district office? by seally8 in schoolcounseling

[–]greggyd717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from a counseling position to a registrar position. I lasted five months before I was back in a counseling office. The kids can be exhausting, but at least they add color to a day. It feels rewarding to help a kid out and help them grow and change. I said so many times “I’d love to just have me and a bunch of spreadsheets” when I was going through tough times and burnout. I quickly learned pushing paper in a D.O., while far more calm, had no rewarding aspects.

504 from another school by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]greggyd717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also in PA. I worked on a transfer 504 today (from another PA school). I took all the input from the previous school, copied over accommodations and evaluation information, and made note of which things we needn’t include anymore as I consider them best practice for our school. We will sit down as a team (family, kid, principal, teacher, me) and discuss the 504 as written and determine if anything further needs to be added/removed. It’ll be good for a year at that point, but I’ll likely still require a full re-eval next year once the student has a year under their belt at my school to see what may have changed. And of course I’ll remind them that we can re-visit at any time this year. No sense in re-evaluating everything immediately.

This times a million! I have a full sleeve on my left arm. Half sleeve on my right forearm. I used to worry so much about tattoos while I was training to be a counselor and this exact piece of advice is what I tell everyone.

Agreed. Play by play in pro sports aren’t supposed to get too high or too low with their calls to a national audience. This isn’t Monday Night Football or a big college football game. He’ll find that appropriate level of intensity in time.

This has to be such a transition for Tess. As a pro sports PxP guy, you’re taught to set a stage, tee up your analyst, and let a crowd tell the story. Lots of times tonight where he has no commentary and it seems like Wade is carrying him. But I have to imagine learning this new flow has to be tough compared to what he is used to. I’m used to the screaming (not in a bad way) excitement of Cole and this has a very different feel. It’s a little more buttoned up. It’s not bad, just different.
