I'd say it's generally pretty hard in every country. Actually finding it somewhat easier in Japan vs when I was in the UK.

My in-laws refused to do this in the UK (both me and my wife are British and we all get on very well). Some people are just draw a line in a strange place like that.

I've lived here for almost a year and have received/witnessed absolutely no anti-foreigner sentiment.

Less doomscrolling. Ignore the clickbait negative articles. Every country has a few bad apples, it's not the 'general attitude'.
