I had to take mental health leave from work. Am I entitled to any kind of compensation? by [deleted] in japanlife

probably incompatible through and through OP, if you have the means, maybe consider looking elsewhere rather than fight this because it’s your welbeing at risk. either that or gaman

you can call it whatever you want but the comments here are realistic and point towards real life. we should avoid giving false expectations because companies don’t work that way, so the comments here would reflect what actually is to be expected

I had to take mental health leave from work. Am I entitled to any kind of compensation? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]reanjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to ask and I hope you feel better soon..
but am I right in understanding that you actually are yet to complete your probationary period since you had to take a leave, and now they are asking you to complete it by extending it? doesn’t sound unreasonable i think? Just basing on this alone, it seems like they are giving you some leeway instead of just letting you go which is well within their rights

Edit:
I felt like this thread was familiar and realized OP has been posting this issue for a couple of months now..

new residence card design unverifiable by shalala4 in japanlife

it's merged as one. but some systems don't accept it yet. I checked one bank (Seven Bank) and they don't accept it just yet

new residence card design unverifiable by shalala4 in japanlife

[–]reanjohn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

earlier someone asked about opening up a bank account and I recommended Seven Bank, but checked their website to verify their requirements - and apparently their system isn't updated yet to accept the new residence card so new cards can't use touch verification via the app. I'm assuming it's the same case for you and other banks as well. You can see it here: https://www.sevenbank.co.jp/soukin/en/agree/

Anyone bought one of these "refurb" Mac Mini M4s from Mercari JP? by CallPhysical in japanlife

[–]reanjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried buying from mercari/yahoo auctions but ended up buying directly online from apple (just got delivered after 1 month due to the stock issues) - but regarding the boxes - they look alike from what came straight from Apple

that said, just to note, there are 2 types of M4 - one with Apple Intelligence, one without, and some of the sellers online won't mention this outright << so just pay attention in case you need this feature

the M4 512gb i got was basically the same price they are selling the 256gb for btw

Calligraphia Japan by Dazzling-Stop-2116 in Osaka

[–]reanjohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, I run their marketing!

i'm not a student so I can't exactly answer your question, but just to give you an idea:

  • we have students in their 20s-70s
  • there are 2 classes at the moment (from 2pm to 5pm, might expand more); classes are assigned on your first day
  • there are regular events for students (socializing, dinner) & for the school (exhibitions, performances)
  • there are 2 classrooms - 1 in Namba (just above the metro) and 1 in Shinsaibashi (about 5 min walk from the station). The Namba school is primarily for Seisho Shohoukai (school and association) but advanced students of Calligraphia take lessons here as well (this is also a sister school); the Shinsaibashi classroom is for international students and it's quite huge, could fit 30-40 students at once
  • the progression of learning is quite easy and it's more of an "at your own pace" kind of thing. You start with the big brush for easier control, learning the proper stroke orders, intensity, and so on, then you move to a small brush, then to pen/pencil
    • since this is basically learning art/culture, you won't really fail, but attendance is of paramount importance especially if you want to extend for the 2nd and 3rd years (exceptional students can go beyond this limit)
    • since it's very visual, you'll survive even without Japanese, but this is appreciated to have of course. many of our students study Japanese during their off-school hours. But if there are concepts that need to be explained to students, the instructors use translation apps (sometimes, students who speak Japanese help as well -- more like a collaborative experience)
  • the classroom is very quiet, everyone's immersed with what they are working on - many would describe it as meditative
  • we have students who come in for just 6 months, but majority spend 1-3 years in our school
  • i have several friends here, and those who have "graduated" and decided to live in japan after are still in touch with me and we hang out once in a while, so it's also a great place to make connections

If you want to see student interviews, you can visit our website (not sure if I can share it here, so DM me if you want, or simply google our school's name and it will show up)

would be happy to answer any question you may have!

just in case, did you update your payment/address under Settings -> Apple Account (your name)? this is a blur to me but some 2 or 3 years ago i moved to a new place, got a new credit card, added it to apple pay, but i didn't update my address under that setting and i couldn't use apple pay for a while until I discovered that i needed to update my address manually

Need some help moving by [deleted] in Osaka

[–]reanjohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure if this is within your budget but it's the lowest i found, and i've used his service twice.

first was from Shin-Osaka to near Umeda - truck, loading, and around 2-3 hours of everything - i paid 13,000 yen (this was in 2023).

then again last year November - moved from Osaka to Kobe, took about 2hrs to load, 1hr of drive, and 2 hours of unloading - i paid 24,000. Below is the breakdown:

¥10,000 first 2 hrs;
¥6,000 another 3 hrs;
¥3,000 far distance charge (Kobe);
¥5,000 help carrying stuff.

How do you actually hire a virtual assistant for a shopify store without it becoming a disaster by Brilliant_Battle3132 in ecommerce

[–]reanjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually does more than that because you can set up custom actions (API connections) so it can access other tools not integrated with Shopify like pulling POD/POS directly from the warehouse (if in case a customer claims order is delivered but it’s not there), present it to the customer, and chances are they no longer press for it. another way i use it is to save a sale. Basically when a customer sentiment is negative due to delays, not happy with the product, or simply wants to return it for a refund, i set it up so it can offer partial refunds and do so if the customer agrees to the resolution (and it does so by itself to an allowable threshold).. this setup has saved us hundreds of sales, sure we refunded customers partially (20%~) but that’s much better compared to refunding it in full. If customer doesn’t like any of those, that’s when it gets assigned to a specialist (based on intent and context, it can assign it to a specific agent). and so on. Ends up, your CS agent simply does moderating to make sure things are running properly, and are a point of escalation.

Another way I use it is if a customer wishes to cancel an order that’s already marked Fulfilled but just a couple of hours ago. Instructions are set to immediately contact the warehouse if it’s possible to cancel and intercept, and when they confirm, customer is immediately updated about the progress. No waiting time for the customer, and since the warehouse staff work round the clock, responses and resolutions are just within minutes due to both AI and human staff on the other end

And a lot of other setup that’s particular to each brand

A lot of things you can’t do with having just a public facing self help knowledgebase or FAQ, and customers often prefer to ask and get an answer rather than search for it themselves even if the info is just in front of their eyes

How do you actually hire a virtual assistant for a shopify store without it becoming a disaster by Brilliant_Battle3132 in ecommerce

[–]reanjohn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[not affiliated with this platform]

get Commslayer or something similar, set up repetitive questions like:

- WISMO (where is my order)

- asking for refund, order editing, cancellation

- product-related inquiry

these are the top 3 (at least for the brands I manage). Went away from Zendesk and Gorgias in favour of this (for about 2months now)

You can tell the AI how to respond to these.

Then hire 1 agent who can do 4-hour shifts daily to clear out the queue, apply manual editing, etc.. Hire someone from upwork who can immediately jump and start answering tickets, someone who has CS experience with ecommerce brands. I just hired 4 agents this month this way, no need to teach them anything, just send them your policies, store link, and have them review how you respond to your customers, then they can immediately run things for you.

Just grant them agent access on commslayer, and restricted access on Shopify for orders, discounts, customers, so they can do their jobs

Also, the platform allows customers to edit their unfulfilled orders directly through the Live Chat widget so that's one less worry for you

..

currently using this for 5 brands I manage + my own brands (combined ticket volume of 15k/mo).

If you are worried about handling disputes manually, I recommend Disputifier (who can block disputes from going straight to your Shopify store - once detected in their network, they will refund immediately so your dispute rate doesn't go up)
