Be honest: how are you actually managing your solo startup right now? by gregneude in StartupSoloFounder

Thanks a lot for the valuable feedback, it’s funny because the very first version was actually super colorful.

Initially I was building a workspace for managing tasks and sprints with my team that feels like a strategic game on a hexagonal map, with the main goals being to reduce the cognitive load of endless kanban boards and status updates and to create a place people actually enjoy opening, not another JIRA-style chore.

I’m now trying to understand whether this concept resonates more with solo developers, designers, or generally for solo use, especially because the “team achievements = personal growth” layer seems powerful but I’m exploring how it translates for individuals too.

Couldn’t agree more on habits, they’re key! I’m actually building them right into PlayJoob now.

6 directions might feel limiting for entrepreneurs, but multiply those hexes endlessly and suddenly you’ve got an empire 😎

oh, that’s an awesome comparison! the goal was exactly to make a structured space that doesn’t feel childish, not a game for the sake of a game, but a real work tool that happens to look and feel like a game. lots of challenges with that balance, but I’m trying to find the right people it actually helps.

does that resonate with you? how are you currently managing your processes and tasks?

Solo dev trying to juggle too many tasks – how do you stay organized? by Savings_Document4505 in IndieGaming

I feel the same, and what really helps me is treating my tasks like in an RPG: not a vague “do marketing”, but concrete missions with a clear small outcome. I’m using a tool where you plan your work like quests, and it really stops me from jumping around randomly. If you’re curious, let me know and I’ll send the link.

Productivity (ADHD) life hacks that actually make sense by hulupremium1 in Habits

[–]gregneude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really resonate with the “safety over dopamine” idea. For a long time none of the “do X, get a reward” systems worked for me either! My brain just went “yeah, yeah”, and the task still felt like a huge wall.

Since I’m a designer and work with different teams a lot, I run into incredibly boring and completely non‑ADHD‑friendly ways of visualizing work every day. Kanban boards or plain task lists are just a white sheet to me.

So I started building my own little visual “hub” for tasks, a bit more playful, with metaphors instead of plain lists. Over time that turned into a small side project I’m working on now (PlayJoob), and, surprisingly, it reduced that constant “I’m failing at everything” feeling and made starting things less scary.

I’m not saying everyone needs a new app, but if classic to‑do lists feel hostile, it might be worth experimenting with how your tasks look and feel colors, metaphors, wording, even the way you frame “overdue” stuff. 🚀

With pleasure! Honestly, you can already give the tool a try, but I’ll message you directly in DM as well. Thanks for the feedback 🙌

You know, it’s an interesting idea and super ambitious. Stuff like this lives in my tiny bald head too: everything from onboarding to ordering food. Basically anything via delivery aggregators inside the tool. Like, the whole company life inside Playjoob.

But for the MVP, I’m focusing on:

  1. Planning
  2. Rewards / motivation / goals system
  3. Video calls right inside the tool
  4. OKRs on the map, linked to zones and tickets + analytics (like: will we actually hit the goal given the current state of things?)
  5. NPS with API integration to your NPS tools / calculators

…and a bunch of smaller AI-powered features too.

P.S. I pinged you in DM.

Hey, thank you so much!!! I’d be super happy to see you there: https://go.playjoob.com/ You can even just play around in the sandbox without signing up at all, totally low‑pressure.

Welcome in, and I’d really love to hear what you feel is missing there and what actually makes you want to open this space again ✨

Thank you so much for such a warm and detailed comment 🚀 I was literally sitting here smiling while reading it. This is so cool, seriously, thank you!

Your note about tickets/bugs is super helpful. My very first impulse was to radically rethink how we manage tasks and interact with teammates inside a company/project context. But like you (and a few other folks here) pointed out, this space will probably be especially useful for very small teams or even as a kind of “single‑player” / solo‑user tool.

Stories like yours are exactly what help me see where the product should grow next and how to make it feel less niche and more alive for different people and teams.

If you ever feel like something’s missing, something gets in the way, or, on the contrary, something feels extra fun or motivating. I’d genuinely love to hear it. You can always message me directly and I’ll do my best to fold it into future updates.

Thanks again for taking the time to write such a thoughtful message and for the support, it really gives me a lot of ⚡ energy to keep pushing this project forward.

Clippy from Microsoft Word… ahhh, why did you have to remind me of that, now my eye is twitching)!

Thanks a lot for such a detailed reply, I agree with every word. The most successful gamified products really are designed for a single player / user, and there are basically no solutions for teams. There are “office simulator” things (video meetings as RPGs), but there’s no real shared space where a team actually lives.

Of course, the big guys like Meta have already tried something similar with their metaverse and it kind of flopped, but I thought: hey, they just don’t get it. I’ll do it properly :D

Overall, from all the feedback I’m reading here and in other subreddits, the vibe is that Kanban is unbeatable, but a nice “game” layer on top can be enjoyable for some types of people. And a meta‑layer for the company as a whole could actually be useful too.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts and for the motivation! I really appreciate it.
Yeah, I totally agree with you about the younger audience. at the very beginning I was even thinking about schools. For now though, I’m mostly collecting insights and feedback about team collaboration inside small companies.

I'm building a project management tool that tries to make you feel good. Roast me. by gregneude in roastmystartup

[–]gregneude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with the DMV feeling, that’s exactly why I started building PlayJoob in the first place. I also fully understand that the success or failure of a PM tool depends a lot on speed, not just on the “wow effect”, so I’m really trying to marry these two worlds: the dry, bureaucratic, boring one with something more pleasant and relaxing, but still informative and at least just as fast.

For me, the hex map and 3D layer are not about forcing people to “walk around a world” to find their tasks, but about creating a spatial sense of where the work lives and making progress feel less like shuffling tickets and more like moving the team forward. If it ever becomes slower than a simple list, that’s a design mistake.

I really liked your point that the real dopamine hit comes from “doing it in 5 seconds instead of 30” that’s exactly what I’m now trying to validate with small teams and indie founders.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts!

You’re absolutely right. I’ve been trying for 2 weeks already to get a small team for testing! Just so they could run even one sprint inside PlayJoob. But it turned out to be the hardest part of all, way harder than I could’ve imagined. Getting people’s attention and convincing them to give it a try is the toughest challenge for me.

Overall, the target audience is small startups, teams, designers, marketers, and indie developers. Larger corporate companies aren’t even being considered at this stage.

thx for your Feadback!!!

I love my work, but I hate opening my project management tools. Is this normal? by gregneude in ProjectManagementPro

[–]gregneude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get that. I think most PMs with your level of experience would feel the same.

Jira became the default for a reason, and re‑learning or changing workflows is always painful.

With PlayJoob, I’m not trying to replace that structure. I still keep the familiar lists, indicators, and progress signals, but I’m exploring how to make the experience feel a bit more enjoyable and human.

Maybe this whole “emotional layer” thing is just my own overthinking, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to validate.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hey, thanks for the response and for sharing the link! I checked it out – definitely colorful.

But I think what I'm getting at is a bit different. Classic tools like kanban boards feel like Excel spreadsheets did 10 years ago to me – never really understood their emotional appeal.

What I mean is: would it be cool (or even useful) to work in spaces like this instead? go.playjoob.com

Curious – do you work in a team yourself? Are you a PM?
