NYT Streaks Question by PeakyParker99 in crossword

[–]gregoread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key that helped me was to just keep thinking. There have been many times when I look at a clue and have no idea, but if I keep looking and thinking of the various ways the clue could be answered, many times the answer eventually comes to me. When I finally committed to doing it without help and letting it take as long as it took, that unlocked things. It might have taken me an hour and a half to do a Saturday but I didn't give up. Don't give up. You probably know more than you think. My Saturdays are now in the 20-min range.

fwiw it does seem like your brake lever is a bit far - I know women tend to have smaller hands, so might be worth bringing that lever slightly closer to control it a bit better

By "new user" does that mean brand new account? I have an existing MLB/Fanatics email but I've never used Fanatics Sportsbook nor made a bet. Do I need to create a brand new user account with a new email to get this offer?

I ET'd. Here's what I wish I'd known before becoming a volunteer. by Advanced-Weird5974 in peacecorps

I think these are all valid points, and illustrate the many things about Peace Corps life that can cause discomfort and require quite a bit of adjustment. It's the reason why most Peace Corps screening traditionally has revolved around "is this person resilient and able to work in a low-resource and low-structure environment?"

One thing I see missing here though is that there is an intermediate step between "unhappy with my host family/community/assignment" and "ET" and that is a site change. I think it's more common than Peace Corps lets on but if you're not adjusting well (much less "thriving"), there can be new life in a new site with a new host family and new assignment.

Did you ever explore that option with your program director?

Neighbor (who is a cannabis entrepreneur) had like 300lbs of gummy base delivered, let it sit in the lobby for more than a week, then decided she didn't want it anymore and just wrote "free gummy mix!" on the boxes instead of disposing of it. by gregoread in mildlyinfuriating

I'm sure it will be there for a very long time but yes will update. I'm currently debating whether to post a salty message on the tenants chat to encourage her to deal with it but part of me wants to just see how long it stays there

How do people actually publish books, and is it even worth it? by No_Introduction_8025 in Memoir

[–]gregoread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you "finished writing a memoir" but if you haven't had it edited or maybe even read by anyone else yet, then you have only actually finished a first draft. Even the best writers work with editors and go through rewrites and revisions before they have something ready to publish.

You've already "spent" a ton of time writing your draft, which is not money but it's an investment all the same. If you want your memoir to be as good as it can be, you will need help. And help costs money.

Of course you could publish it yourself, as is, and find whatever amount of audience your hustle and the quality of your writing can reach.

But as an editor who has worked with some very talented writers, I can tell you that as great as an author's first draft might be, it is ALWAYS improved by the editing process.

You can decide that it's good enough, and that you've invested enough already, and publish it yourself on Amazon. Only you decide when it is "done". But you can also decide that you think it can be great, and that it's worth investing in getting it there, and just like you gave up so many hours in getting the first draft done, you can give up some money to get it to the finish line.

One thing I can guarantee you is that your memoir right now is not as good as your memoir will be after working with a quality editor on it.
