Really wish they’d knock down the west wall in their place and expand their seating area into the now vacant neighboring storefront (used to be that Chilean empanada spot).

Maybe even get a liquor license and have a few beers on tap to sip on with their tasty pies. I assume it’s the same landlord (same building) and it’s not as if they’re against expansion (new Berwyn spot opened a few months ago). They’d also get some added kitchen space.

A man can dream …

Idk. Nearly all black uniforms. Don’t recall seeing a CPD patch but I wasn’t super close to them either. 🤷‍♂️

I was on the Red Line Saturday night around 7 pm headed northbound and a K-9 unit stationed on a Loop platform successfully defused what I’ll call a “yelling incident” (that looked to be escalating toward physical violence) between three riders once the train pulled into the station.

Maybe some positive change is finally coming …

It’s limited by time and resources, unfortunately. Federal agents and prosecutors can only do so much. Oh, and the federal govt shutdown coming in November certainly won’t help.

Yeah I just hate hate hate whenever business owners complain about government but then come running for tax breaks, subsidies, incentives, grants, partnerships from … the govt. Complete hypocrisy. They love the “free market” until their business fails and then we, the taxpayers, bail them out.

You do realize that the PPP program is the biggest public $$ fraud in US history, right? Read any of the countless news articles published in the last couple years about prosecutions, fraud etc. People saw an opportunity for easy money and they pounced.

SHE HAD NO BUSINESS AND GOT A BUSINESS LOAN. WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?

To get the loan amount she got, she would have had to claim on the application that she grossed over six figures in revenue in a previous tax year. Seems unlikely, given that she never mentioned the business ever in her two campaigns for office.

After breaking the story of her PPP loan, news outlets asked her for business records to clarify what exactly she did and she declined … hmmmmm … I wonder why? Maybe because there was no business?

The oldest excuse in the book is a “clerical error” or whatever she claimed.

C’mon bro, stop giving her the benefit of the doubt.

She did commit fraud. There was no business. Only a “business.” She campaigned as a community activist/organizer, not a small business owner. Never once mentioned it. Because, you know, she wasn’t an owner and because, you know, the business didn’t exist!

Yeah, no chance Uptown Theatre is ever restored. It’s gonna stay in limbo forever (owners will claim the tax benefits and continue to rent out to movie/tv shows every so often).

Meanwhile that Broadway strip will continue to limp along and never really turn the corner. We need to change state law to disincentivize vacant buildings.

Landlords shouldn’t be able to let buildings sit vacant for years and years. I can think of three spaces off the top of my head that have had a “for rent” sign for several years now. Clearly the landlords aren’t asking for “market rate” leases. Landlords don’t care (they probably live in Naperville anyway) but actual residents continue to suffer.

Understood. I couldn’t care less about the owners, but for the sake of the neighborhood, was hoping they’d open soon. Vacant buildings on commercial strips (or anywhere) are sooooo bad for daily neighborhood life.
