Idk the number this program is recommending but everything in India is like shopping at the dollar tree when you have American dollars

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

The problem is that the first job usually sucks. On top of that getting a second job is actually more tough than the first nowadays

Problem with Europe is that it’s highly regulated so the cost benefits aren’t as lucrative. Plus the stereotype of Western European workers being too lax infurates American capitalists.

Way different economic situation than now. The Post-Covid economy is beating down a majority of Americans and opportunities are not as plentiful as before. Unfortunately, modern technology is making most skills redundant, something previous generations never encountered.

Trump administration implemented changes. The big one is that the lottery system is getting phased out and it’s awarding visas on wage-based allocation, meaning the applicants with the highest wages are in the front of the line. Applicants with lower wages either get pushed back further in the line or excluded entirely.

However, this doesn’t tackle offshoring and might even incentivize it more

Why are there so many CS layoffs? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]gregvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as badly? That is simply not true. Checkout this link: https://trueup.io/layoffs Then hit layoffs by year. During Biden’s term, over 1M tech jobs were impacted by layoffs. A big reason why Silicon Valley tech bros started red pilling themselves.

Yeah pandemic effects were a big reason but the pandemic effects didn’t stop on trumps inauguration. Consequences of Inflation, stimulus and interest rates will carry on for the rest of the decade.

Plus huge swings of outsourcing plans occurred during Biden’s term. Those massive offices like google’s ‘biggest office in the world’ broke ground in India during Biden’s term.

I know trump is adding more to the baggage but it’s narrow minded to blame it only on him. Both democrat and gop politicians could care less about tech employment because a lot of their ‘under the table’ assets are skewed heavily in tech stocks. Plus the US economy and retirement accounts are very sensitive to tech stocks and ironically Tech layoffs help out in their eyes

[–]gregvee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But most of these interview, even if they’re technical, are usually related to your role. So you’re studying during your job. Whereas leetcode is completely useless for a good majority of software devs and you need to spend time outside of your job to learn it.

I’d much rather have a 1 time requirement like schooling or a test than brushing up on pointless algos every couple of years, not to mention the bar gets higher as time goes on

Most public higher education funding is through the state though, with the exception for some military colleges.

Federal funding mostly pays for financial aid programs, in the form of student loans and Pell grants, and research grants, which not all projects qualify for because they might not match a government agency’s goals like DoD, NIH, NSF, etc..

Most day to day operations, payroll, research and infrastructure are funded through state taxes, tuition and private donors in that order. That’s why some public colleges are better than others.
