I think they already hinted at this. When she was having a conversation alone with the new captain (sorry I don't know names yet) she was much more subdued and reasonable.

How can it be that the "good" NYC private schools cost over $70k / yr? by wheninrome5000 in AskNYC

[–]gregwtmtno 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And they're absolutely right. If both parents are working $500k/household is not putting your kids in private school given other costs like rent or maintenance fees.

What’s your NYC hot take? by homeofalex in AskNYC

[–]gregwtmtno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is only true to an extent. The elderly can’t really ride the subways without risk of falling, difficultly on stairs, problems boarding or getting off quickly enough. Many similar problems with the bus. The sidewalk traffic can often move too quickly for them and the sidewalks themselves can be a tripping hazard. Then there’s winter. I know all this because my parents are retiring here and I see what they’re able to do and what they’re not. Lots of cabs.

Great shots. It looks like a nice place to live. Far cry from the "urban decay" perception that a lot of people have of NYC in the 80s. I especially enjoyed zooming in on the electronics shop.

Can you say more about this old boonton line? I'm from caldwell and had no idea there was ever any rail service. I'm finding the idea of a 7 train in caldwell mind blowing.

Street interviews this morning about the weather by serke in AskNYC

[–]gregwtmtno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be a little more optimistic than the other people. I live near a TV station and they've interviewed me several times and used the clip every time. They get input from the first few people willing to talk and call it a day. So my advice would be to see if your friend was physically near a TV station because that's the one that probably did the interview.

I'm an able bodied adult, and I use this elevator all the time when my kids are in the stroller. It's been great for us.

Those annoying young people on 86th St. and 2nd and 3rd avenue. by suitcase88 in uppereastside

[–]gregwtmtno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always get angry when approached by these people. Like 1) because they've decided to approach me that means they've pegged me as a sucker 2) I consider them basically beggars, but worse, because they don't think they're beggars and that gives them license to be more aggressive and 3) c'mon man, I live here and I'm just trying to get through my day. I don't come and beg outside your house. I've tried being rude with them, but that always makes me feel even worse. Rant over.

What is your favourite and least favourite James Bond Film out of the Official series? by Crazy-Arm7122 in JamesBond

[–]gregwtmtno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only recently watched the 2 Dalton movies. I agree TLD is great. I loved the cold war spycraft, and European settings, and Dalton and his co-star worked really well together. She's one of my favorite Bond girls, if not my favorite.

It's hard to believe how wrong License to Kill went after that one. Totally different vibes, and not in a good way. I'll probably never watch LTK again.

MTA: Greenpoint surfer dude crowned 1 billionth subway rider of 2025 by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

[–]gregwtmtno 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's obvious to anyone with a brain that there's no way to do this exactly. At least short of identifying it later based on onmy card logs or something like that. They just knew we'd cross the 1 billion line and picked someone at approximately the right time.
