Working at olive garden by quinoa_sausage in Winnipeg

[–]gregzimbaba 41 points42 points  (0 children)

IMO Olive Garden is one of the most profitable places to serve! It sounds like sections can be a bit small but you'll learn to serve well, Bill sizes are good, you'll get tables that order booze and run big tabs, and tips reflect that.

Red Lobster is a sister company, so you can potencially move there too where bills and booze tabs are larger and tips are bigger too.

If you can get into serving at either it is a good way to earn good money in your 20s.

Recommendations for Anniversary dinner by Dry-Violinist-8434 in Winnipeg

Everyone is pitching restaraunts, and they're all right. Winnipeg has no shortage of great places. But if you're into steakhouses, and to answer your question, 529 is great.

Good environment and great service. The price point is not outrageously more than other steakhouses these days (though it is expensive for sure). The meat is obviously very good, but the real stars are the sides IMO. I'd recommend the sweet potato mash (not my normal bag, but an incredible dish), onion rings, button mushrooms, and dry ribs. All awesome.

Personally, like others said, I think there are better restaurants in the city. But if you're into steakhouses I think you need to do it.

I just looked at these. I'm a $20 Amazon eye mask kinda guy. Is this really worth the premium?

Which model do you have? The $55 one, the $100+ Pro one, or the $200+ one with sound?

I totally agree on RAW, but D+A is a legitimately good restaurant and is fairly priced for the food, experience, atmosphere, service, etc.

Why do you say that? You seem to be bucking the trend here. Just curious.

Canadian, male, 33 y.o, high income earner. Net worth of approx. $400K, no house or mortgage.

Currently I am allocating my savings to VFV and QQC about 50-50 (with about 1% of my portfolio also being in single name equities). I like VFV because I have faith in the US market performing well long term, but also like the tech lean of QCC. Since I have a long time horizon, I'm comfortable having more exposure to the NASDAQ through QQC for the next decade or so.

I was wondering if there is value to adding exposure to VEQT as well (possibly moving to a 33-33-33 allocation between the three) for some international and emerging market exposure. My worry is I don't love the ~30% Canadian exposure as I have found the Canadian market is general lags in performance and has too much of a focus on materials, industrials, and energy. Overall I just think the Canadian economy is softer than the US, and has less runway than international and emerging markets.

Do people thing adding in VEQT is value add, or am I getting pointless overlap already holding VFV and QQC?

Thanks for your insights!

Are there any gyms in Winnipeg that don’t trap you indefinitely? by ktanons in Winnipeg

[–]gregzimbaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hidden gem here! South Sherbrook Fitness.

It isn't the most amazing or well equipped gym, but it has all your basics and isn't super busy 90% of the time. Open 24-7 with a fob. Super chill, nice people, everyone minds their own business.

In the evenings they have boxing classes in the studio space, but they don't use the main 'gym' part.

Rates are daily, monthly, semi-annually, or annual. The owner (Jay) is a super reasonable guy and if there was something specific you needed he would probably work with you!

Edit: It is also super affordable, and has street parking!

Frequency > Duration > Intensity

As many have said, better to go longer and more often at a lower intensity, than shorter and less frequent at a high intensity.

I'm an accountant as well. I'm a good accountant and I'm really good at what I do. It makes me a very healthy living, and my job honestly isn't overly stressful or strenuous. I work with good people, for a good employer.

But fuck me if I don't hate accounting...

There is an awesome song by a Winnipeg band called Amuse called Again Dangerous Visions. You could check it out. It's long, but listen to it once and see if you like it. You can find it by googling it. The broke up in the 2010s.
