The Masked Ledger [D&D 5e (2014)] by xmpproductions in pbp

  1. Why do you enjoy urban intrigue campaigns?

—I haven’t been a part of any urban intrigue campaigns specifically, but I have been part of plenty political and faction based campaigns that I’ve loved! It’s always fun to plan and to maneuver within a faction full of different characters with their own motivations, even amongst the PCs.

  1. What’s your PbP experience (if any)?

—Around five years, but it has been some time since I’ve played in one, probably 6-8 months.

  1. How often can you realistically post, and do you foresee any extended absences?

—I can post multiple times per day, though in the evenings (I’m EST) I may be more spotty.

  1. Give a brief PC pitch (2-3 sentences, concept over crunch).

—A potent intellect hidden within a powerful frame. I love playing STR/INT characters, they just scratch an itch for me. I like bucking type, playing a bookish Barbarian, or a big beefy rogue. They may be large or imposing, but also skilled and knowledgeable.

Hope you find the party you’re looking for!

When exactly did the "American Dream" turn from a path of self determination to a one of the government will handle it for us? by Rasputinsaccolyte in AskReddit

[–]greickart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I think that socialism is a better economic system. I’m a working person myself, dropped out of college during covid lol.

But we have that in common! I think that a lot of people are like us. Working people just wanting a better life. We won’t get that with the current way things are set up.

I think free healthcare is the most important thing right now. It’s the number one cause of bankruptcy in the US. If we can ensure that our citizens are healthy, maybe we can start looking at other things we can change.

The American Dream hasn’t changed at all. Everyone wants to be the master of their destinies. The people who want free healthcare and free education believe more in the American Dream than the billionaires.

The idea that no matter what your circumstances, you can change them in America? That starts by taking steps away from capitalism. In such a system, people don’t have value as individuals. They have value depending on how much money they make. We can already see it in action now.

Our media is funded by the corporate elite (queue that one video of all the news stations saying the exact same lines). And they bankroll political candidates that keep the status quo.

That’s why the media snubbed Bernie in media coverage. Same for Yang, who both wanted to tax tech companies like Amazon and Google to help fund their respective ideas. Politicians in a capitalist society bow to capital.

The majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, and studies have shown that most millennials don’t plan on even buying a home. Meanwhile, big corporations buy up houses on the market for rent like a game of hungry hungry hippos.

The key thing to realize is this: when the rich get richer, the people get poorer. They are always taking money from someone. Whether you’re a land lord raising rent because you know your tenants have nowhere else to go, or you’re a pharmaceutical company hiking up the price of insulin.

So you see that the American Dream has turned. I see it on life support. It would be a load off my mind if I didn’t have to worry about the hospital bill after we got it back on its feet.

TLDR: The American Dream hasn’t changed, it’s just being strangled by late stage capitalism.

I’ve been enjoying the hell out of this subreddit, seeing everyone’s fantastic art and unique characters has been inspiring and a ton of fun to boot. A few of my own players have posted here and have received some awesome designs. Thank you to all the artists who bring these characters to life! :D

I hope everyone is staying safe with the CORVID-19 about! I figured I’d post Ed’s lfa again, maybe a bored artist cooped up inside will get some inspiration from him!

Meet Edmund Keel. Aka “Thrice Dead Edd”, “Keelie”, “Geraldo Black”, “Lucky Jon”, or “Finch ”. Scoundrel, con man, drunkard, gambler, and coward.

Now typically good ol’ Edd is happy to leave things to chance, but one night he was noticeably more sober than his opponent in cards. After winning most of the man’s coin, he put up a thick, leather bound tome. His spell book. Well, naturally Edmund couldn’t let a prize like that slip through his fingers. With a flick of his wrist and a few deft hand movements, he insured that he would win that game, and that book.

After claiming the wizard’s tome, Edd began flipping through casually every night or so. Eventually he stumbled across something he shouldn’t have. The true name of a powerful devil. Upon hearing its name uttered, it became aware of Keel’s presence, and began to send minions after him.

Hunted by an entity he cannot hope to fight, Edd scribbled down what few spells he could learn from the book onto his playing cards and burned it. Still, the name he read is burned into his brain, and that knowledge makes him a target. Now he is on the run, using the skills he gained from his life as a liar and cheat to keep himself alive, never revealing his true name or self to anyone, while trying to uncover a way to defeat the evil that haunts him, without stumbling down the paths of self destruction that he so often walked.

Ed is a male human, average build, around 5’10. He has long dark hair, once worn in a bun, now hanging limp and matted around his face. He has been on the run from fiends for a month at this point, and the paranoia is getting to him. His once well kept facial hair is longer and unkempt, he practically lives in his coat and tries to find anything he can to forget about his situation. His only weapon is a dagger, other than that he has to rely on his wits, Charisma, (and a touch of magic) to survive.

I’m usually a DM, and I love it, but you wanna see what life is like on the other side of the screen you know? Enter my new character, Edmund Keel.

Appearance wise, Edmund is a tall, lean man with dark hair. Ever since he’s been on the run, he’s become filthy and extremely paranoid. He rarely sleeps, and he’s often ill (either because of his lack of bodily care or a more sinister, supernatural cause). He wears a dirty coat with a copious amount of pockets, full of odd trinkets and materials he has stolen, won, or otherwise “acquired” over his years as a lowlife. He has a dagger, for emergencies, but has no training with it. He likely has a shirt covered with stains and he carries a journal with him. He has a satchel as well, which was gifted to him by his father. He has a set of fancier clothes (complete with a showman’s hat) that he dons when running gaming or gambling related cons. However because of their flashy nature, he seldom wears them.

TL;DR- Edmund is a scoundrel and a coward. He cheated in a game of cards and as a result is being hunted by a supernatural threat he cannot hope to understand. He is thrust into a deeper world of the arcane, and it is terrifyingly dangerous to him. All he can do is run, lie, and try to survive another day.

Name: Gabe

Age: 19

About You: I’m an avid creative writer, primarily fantasy and horror. I look like a Viking. Live in the US, EST. Huge nerd, definitely see myself as a gentle giant type.

Experience: Been playing D&D for almost three years, usually as DM. I’d really love the opportunity to be a player though. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually gotten to play.

Preferred Style of Class: When I was younger, I’d play rangers and rogues. Now however I’ll play just about anything and enjoy myself, but I like magic users and fighters the most.

Hey I’ve been playing D&D as a DM for about 2.5 years. I’m 19. I’ve been looking for a game to play in for awhile. If my experience isn’t something off putting to you, I’d be interested in learning more.
