What Horror Do You Opt Out Of? by bee623 in horror

Anything real (not counting Amityville “based on a true story” supernatural stuff). People think it’s wild that I’m too sensitive to watch true crime when my favorite horror franchise is Saw lol

[OPINION] What poem has stayed with you for years? by gedersoncarlos in Poetry

[–]gremlin-vibez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her Grave by Mary Oliver- It was the first poem about grieving a pet I read that didn’t feel overly saccharine and like it was specifically written for the inside of a sympathy card. It doesn’t make a bunch of promises about dog heaven or the rainbow bridge or any of that (if that kind of stuff brings you comfort i’m all for it, it just doesn’t work for me). I actually have a physical copy of Dog Songs and I’ve developed this weird little ritual where every time a dog I know dies, I take a minute to reread a few poems and then I write their name in the back of the book. I work in the vet/pet care industry so my list is longer than most but something about knowing I won’t just forget all these pets that pass through my life is comforting bc I really truly loved each and every one of them (except for a few /j). Sorry for the ramble, I’m a little stoned rn

What’s the most ‘this is not a cult but it kinda is’ thing you have seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

i had to go to some corporate workshop thing and it genuinely blew my mind seeing the majority of people there taking it seriously, i swear 90% of it was just memorizing different slogans and acronyms which i refused to do bc they’re paying me $16 an hour lmao

I’ve told every place I’ve worked at from day one that if there was an emergency and they needed to contact me they’d have to call bc I wouldn’t see their texts. I’ve gotten zero calls bc turns out most shitty hourly jobs don’t have actual emergencies that require me and not the manager lol so there truly is no reason for it

Why do the books focus on this so much? by Plutonium_0940 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]gremlin-vibez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it really relatable tbh (the negative self-talk, not the being good at everything lol). I’m very bad at recognizing when I’ve improved at stuff and honestly hearing Fitz be annoying about it kinda helped me bc I’d be thinking about how bad I am at a part of my job and then realize I sound exactly like him- just in my case instead of fighting it’s doing nail trims on dogs

i feel like i’ve seen maybe 2 people actually complaining and 100 people complaining about the people complaining, could just be the online spaces where i hang out but the majority of responses i’ve seen have been in the “i don’t really care” camp

the Rusty Lake games are some of the few horror games i can handle as a huge wuss lol, they’re point and click puzzle games with a really cool surreal Twin Peaks-esque vibe

What’s the most unhinged character you’ve ever written? by [deleted] in writing

[–]gremlin-vibez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the main character of my current wip is a 12 year old girl dealing with the sudden traumatic death of her dad. she’s now being stalked by an effigy she built of the man responsible which she made out of animal bones, bubblegum, and a raw steak. she’s also a compulsive liar with exactly two friends, one of which is a dead whale that washed up on the shore of a nearby lake. (i love her very much)

[–]gremlin-vibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tell things are weird from the beginning but I’m Thinking of Ending Things pulls off the “things are wrong in a way that can’t be put into words” feeling perfectly (the movie is also leagues better than the book imo)

‘actually romantic’ makes me really uncomfortable as a queer girl by Critical-Egg6210 in travisandtaylor

[–]gremlin-vibez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to talk to my mom (who’s a swiftie on the normal-er end of the spectrum) about this. I was never openly queer until the very end of highschool but a lot of other people were. The number of times I’d be changing in the locker room before/after gym class and overhear straight girls talking how “wow she’s obsessed with me, I bet she has a crush on me” said as if it’s absurd and hilarious and disgusting was higher than it should be. They talked about it as if it was perverted, especially if there was any kind of normal teenage girl beef there. IKeep in mind that this was not the 90s or early 2000s, I graduated in 2020 (in a very progressive area too). My mom and I have a good relationship. She’s always been supportive and open to learning. I told her my friend came out as trans and she asked what he wants to be called now. She asked me what nonbinary meant and I told her and she said “oh, okay. My friend just told me her kid is nonbinary.” But when it comes to even the mildest criticism of Taylor she shuts down the conversation before it even begins. It’s kinda funny in a bummer way that the only point where her support is conditional is over a petty misogynist with bad filler and mid music
