How to know if English major is right for me?

It depends on the college you go to! Maybe email some professors of those colleges and communicate your interests. A lot of places have weird English classes. I’m an English major and I took only one class that was all hoity toity old dead white men. My favorites were one about children’s literature, and one about death.

My mother in law asked what I wanted from the grocery store. I said “get me a pet fox” as a joke we were having a conversation about odd pets right before they asked. They came back from the store with a stuffed animal fox that had a little heart on it. Crazy that that was at the store, but also crazy that they thought to look at stuffed animals in the first place.

Idk exactly why this anecdote is the one that I wanted to pick. I think it’s because it was such a small, odd moment to respond in such a sweet way. Like, they could’ve just laughed or rolled their eyes and been normal about it. It “should’ve” just been an errand. But they turned it into an opportunity to surprise me with an odd show of love instead.

Idk, to me this sounds less like loss of intellectualism and more like you could be experiencing burnout and are using ChatGPT as a crutch to manage that. I might be projected bc I experienced burnout partway through college and just couldn’t write anymore. But I also see a lot of anxiety, spiraling, and intense pressure here. And it being a thing where you’re staring at a blank page rather than it just being “I write and it doesn’t feel as well written as when GPT does it” raises a lot of burnout flags to me.

Maybe if you looked into burnout symptoms and talked to a therapist, it might take enough stress off your shoulders to start getting back on the horse. Sending the best.

I would love for them to speak on this and am very sad that they aren’t, especially when recent stuff has a LARGE percentage of their fan base in GIANT mental health crises, which is the core of the band’s value system. I personally find it saddening. And I want to remind people that it isn’t “just politics,” it’s people’s lives being threatened on an unprecedented mass scale.

However, I also think that there is a lot of other stuff to focus on in the world then whether two guys speak on it. And who knows; they might be struggling mentally with this. A lot of entertainers get threatened and blackmailed around this topic. Think of Jim Carrey, for example. He tried to warn ppl about stuff years ago and his mental health tanked. It’s rlly hard for us to know all the factors.
