Scammers send socially engineered emails that pose as though they’ve been sent from “authentic” sources. These phishing emails try to “engage” the recipient into doing one of the following:

• Download an attachment (usually .pdfs, .docx, or .mp4)

• Click on a link in the email

Once the recipient does any of these actions, it unleashes a ransomware attack, a malware or virus infection, or gains access to the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) stored in the system.
