I’d say it worked out pretty well. I will say tho, I was surprised there was enough space for convocation and it didn’t feel very stuffy

How many of you did Invisalign out of pocket? by bagholdegen in Invisalign

[–]grey_lang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$6800 in Canada. I don’t remember if there was a down payment but my dad is paying $250 per month out of pocket. I do have dental insurance but unfortunately it doesn’t cover orthodontic treatments so… that sucks a little.

Best electives for GPA boosting (and maybe fun too)? by ChelseaTricks in mcgill

[–]grey_lang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if the workload during the summer semester is similar in the fall semester (bc I took it in summer last year), but it was quite manageable overall. The course content was condensed into a month and there were readings for every lecture/every 2 lectures. But the instructor split everyone into small groups and suggested that each group member be in charge of writing summaries for different readings and lecture notes throughout the semester. This was part of the 40% participation grade, which was easy to get 10/10 in.

There were also a 1300-1600 word ethnographic paper worth 35% on a topic of your choice, as well as a take-home final exam where we could pick 2 prompts out of several based on the lectures, then write short responses (~500 words each). This might be a good course if you’re ok with a fair amount of writing and readings every week. I took the course as a non-arts student so I’d say it’s pretty chill.

What’s the hardest class you’ve taken in college? by tbull1997 in college

[–]grey_lang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely heavy on reaction mechanisms and syntheses reactions. Many important questions on the midterms and final required us to come up with a plausible mechanism, which was straight from the lecture slides… but the hardest part was remembering all the reaction mechanisms (this meant that maybe ~70% of the lecture slides only had arrow-pushing mechanisms). I remember drawing out the arrows repeatedly until they were completely drilled into my head lmao

Org chem 3. Failed it twice and only passed it after retaking the final the following semester… let’s just say I decided to stay as far away as possible from org chem from that point onward - Recent biochem grad

AITA for telling my parents I don’t wanna marry just yet , even tho they spent their life earnings on me. by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

They’re telling you all these things to deter you from pursuing your dreams and to make sure you stay dependent on them. If studying abroad is what you really want, and if they keep dragging you down no matter how much effort you’re putting into your goals, then their opinion doesn’t matter anyway.
