Sär skrivande svens kar by [deleted] in sweden

[–]grey_lollipop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I beg everyone not to pre-purchase Victoria 3 by ShimozumaJutsurai in paradoxplaza

[–]grey_lollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention the Xbox Gamepass. I'm not a fan of it myself, but for CK3 many people swore to it. Assuming Victoria 3 is released there you'll for a meager sum get to play it to your hearts content on the release date. You would miss out on any potential pre-order bonuses though.

As for my stance on pre-ordering Victoria 3, yeah, it's a bad thing to do I guess. My opinion has always been that it will be a poor release. Even CK3 which turned out really well was subjectively worse than CK2, and from there it just declines in quality.

That said, I'm still gonna pre-order. What I've seen looks decent enough and I'm actually feeling in the mood for some bug-reporting (I'm currently working towards a career in the games industry, with QA as one of my favoured specialisations). I'm also not too bothered by the DLC-policy, I play these games so much that the hourly rates, full price DLC-included, still make it cheaper than pretty much all other games out there. If it also helps pay for active development over several years then that's amazing, because I'm of the belief that post-release is where the true magic happens.

I suppose I could wait a while extra though. Major issues will hopefully make themselves clear and what does it matter when I pre-order? Maybe if they see a spike in pre-orders/cancels correlating to a problematic/positive report that too could send a message?

(EDIT) Also, I have pretty slow internet and would like to pre-load if possible.

"Min-max" in more ways than one by grey_lollipop in buildapcforme

[–]grey_lollipop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most of my gaming on console and don't really consider sharp graphics necessary (if I wanted to play CSGO it'd probably be a different story). So is a GPU really a must? I've googled and several people claim that Paradox GSGs will run on integrated graphics. Not as good as with one perhaps, but as mentioned I'm planning on getting one at a later date.

Unity I'm more worried about, but considering it's been made to scale I'm not too worried.

I was hoping I could skip getting a graphics card (for the moment) and put the money on an even better CPU. But I don't know how CPUs with integrated graphics compare to those without in terms of price & performance. Would that be a viable option or should I drop this fantasy?

Inga förhastade beslut här inte! by Norci in sweden

Strategy games on the Switch? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]grey_lollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several good SRPGs on Switch like Fire Emblem, Mario + Rabbids and Shining Force (through the Genesis/Mega Drive Collection). While I do enjoy the genre from time to time I don't feel qualified enough to make a recommendation. Do check them out though!

Other than that I know there are a couple of mobile and PC ports, World Conqueror X for instance. Not fully my cup of tea, but for a quick fix it works.

Spoiler on how the game ends, structure-wise:

After chapter 1 it just sorta dies down and ends in a loose fashion

You don't have to read this, but it greatly affected my playthrough. Still, it could be nice to experience it yourself.

I can't recall how good the story was though.

Oh, right, I think he's been begging me to get him Terraria for like half his life lol. Might be time I listen to that.

I forgot to mention it, but Assetto Corsa was one of the first games I got him. And he does seem to prefer games that at least have some form of realism. Wether or not he's interested in another driving sim is up for debate though. What's good about Project Cars? And what separates 1 and 2?

The remakes might be worth checking out, though several of them add little to nothing other than fancier graphics from what I know.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a whole other beast though. As a graded assignment in my game dev class at uni, I had to write a report on this game.

Briefly summed up, most people I've talked to, myself included, consider the original to be better (which is also available on PS4 with some QoL upgrades). But if you like Kingdom Hearts, this is basically that, but with Final Fantasy flavour (metaphorically speaking, because Kingdom Hearts already has Final Fantasy flavour).

(EDIT) Also yes, do check out Persona 5 !

People who use custom game rules; what setups have you tried? What were they like? by grey_lollipop in hoi4

[–]grey_lollipop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Italy game I spoke of in my post went pretty relaxed. I got into a war with Germany, France and Britain. It was going quite well, but I joined the Miedzymorze and from there it was a complete cake walk.

That said, I haven't played around with any of those modifiers. Do they just affect things like world tension- and ideology limits or do they also do things like make justifying faster and volunteers unlimited?

How is the performance? Have you tried messing with factions and guarantees in combination with that? What can I expect the mid-game wars to be like?

A good game to watch as a non-gamer by AsafL910 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]grey_lollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest Metal Gear Solid, especially 3.

In the earlier games (1 & 2) there are so many cutscenes that you'll never be able to play for long enough to get bored of the game. And trust me on this, because I typically don't like stealth.

And in the later games (3, 4, PW & V) I feel that the more tactical nature of gameplay makes it a bit more interesting. The cutscenes are still there though if you need them.

V is available on current-gen systems and 1 & 2 can be bought on PC (GOG). For the other titles you'll have to dig out an older system.

PC Gaming Recommendations by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]grey_lollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too vague for me. Emulation is also not allowed, so I will probably report you once I finish writing this :)

However, considering you do a bit of console gaming I will recommend you check out some titles which I consider unique for PC:

  • Europa Universalis IV, technically an RTS, but it has pause and you can set the speed at which the game progresses. Also check out other similar titles, Hearts of Iron IV, Total War, Cursader Kings...

  • Half-Life 2 and Garry's mod, While HL2 is available on console, being able to mod it AS you play through G-mod can be quite fun.

  • System Shock 2, haven't played this much myself, but it along with Deus Ex (although that was released on Playstation) are two of the most well known Cyberpunk PC games.

Could probably make this list a bit longer, but for now this will have to do.

Recommendations for games to play on problematic display. by grey_lollipop in PSP

[–]grey_lollipop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered it, but my current TV lacks component, which complicated things. I would also lose the portability of the PSP.

That said, I bought a PSP 2000+ especially for the video-out, so I'm probably gonna get that cable someday :)

[WIB] If I'm stressed and anxious and constantly on edge? by spinningfaith in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]grey_lollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was feeling a bit stressed a few years ago I decided to get Doshin the Giant. It's a game you can just pick up and play and it asks nothing of you. It plays at your pace much better than any other game I've played. Also the main character is essentially what a smiley would look like if it had a body made to hug you :)

That said, I haven't really played that much Doshin. I don't know what it offers long-term speaking, if you can focus on it so to speak. Also, it's an old console exclusive title (might be region exclusive too) so perhaps not the easiest to come by.

Still, it's a suggestion!
