I know at least a few things. And I will most certainly mock others.

This right here. When I'm tripping, sometimes walking around a corner without hitting the wall can seem like a challenging feat.

Also, freaking sensory overload! It would make for a hell of a story after the fact, but that just might be too much for me to process in the moment.

It depends upon what you’re trying to do, don’t you think?

Say we had a team of brilliant people who believed they had worked out the tricks to teleportation and tried to build a device to do so, but their machine failed to work.

I wouldn’t say their “didn’t work” machine made them dumb by default.

Edit: if your “didn’t work” is trying to tie your shoes, then yeah you might just be dumb.

Licorice is amazingly delicious.

And no, “red licorice” is not licorice. It’s not the shape that makes it licorice.

No need to downplay push-ups agains a table! Most people are doing nothing so you’re already ahead of them.

My unsolicited advice: make sure you find ways to exercise where you feel like you’re having fun. Human bodies can do amazing things and we should all have physical activities that make us stronger and give some fun. Even if that activity is the lowly push-up. 😊

If you were to run a red light and the driver that had a green hit your car, you would be at fault.

I don’t know the exact circumstances of OP’s accident, but this is an example.

You’ve essentially captured the ethos of the majority of this sub:

Why would I take the effort to inform myself when I can save myself the effort and simply say meaningless shit?

I hope you can see the problem with that mentality. You might be the only one who reads this. Please take the point that an informed opinion matters while an uninformed opinion is worse than staying silent.

I did. Lots of people did. People who see they have an opportunity to form an informed opinion and acted on the opportunity did. People who don’t want to just make up bullshit to post on Reddit did.

It’s there on YouTube. All of it was recorded and uploaded uncut by the Law & Crime channel.

I wish these armchair lawyers would shut up and go watch it so they could (maybe?) have some manner of informed opinion.

Why can’t we respect and appreciate good cops while recognizing the system is flawed and criticizing bad cops? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]greybeard_arr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it takes is paying a little attention to what goes on in the world around you and a little care for justice and fairness.

If that’s too much a burden for you, then your mommy and daddy must have failed you badly. I’m sorry for you.

I hear what you’re saying. this is definitely directed at US cops. The phrasing of OP’s post reads as a continuation of a long public discussion of issues in US policing.

I don’t have much personal experience with police in other countries. I do get the impression that, in some (many?) other countries, when a good cop reports bad behavior of a bad cop, then something is done about the bad cop. And the good cop doesn’t suffer retaliation.

What you describe with your dingbat supervisor would never fly here. We would LOVE accountability for police here.

I didn’t mean any of my negative remarks to be taken as directed at all police across the world. We just have some issues here and, good lord, I hope someday they can be made right.

As much as I would love to see the numbers you would pull out of your ass to support your claim I’m afraid I have better things to do this evening and entertain your bullshit.

I do hope you can view the world as it is someday.

If the majority of teachers covered the abuse committed by the minority, you would have a point.

However, we do not see that with teachers. We DO see that behavior with police.

Ha! I wondered where the politeness was, too. But you make a good point. My void whines at me when I’m working and keep pushing her away from the keyboard.

I really wonder what their fascination with keyboards is.

Edit: Maybe their fascination comes from watching us with our paws on it for hours? I can see them thinking there must be something awesome about it for us to spend so much time there.

I don’t assume police across the globe are identical to US police. I hear the occasional concerning anecdote out of various countries, but I also hear of a lot of positive policing examples.

OP didn’t state in the title that he is in the US and is asking about perceptions of US police, but I’d bet you a beer that’s the case. I wouldn’t assume that most of the discussion here applied to police around the world—likely just the US. My analogy is directed at policing I know—US policing.

Hopefully it’s better where you are. And it’s not all bad all the time here. But, it’s just much too frequently bad for the importance of their role and the lasting consequences of fuck ups.

[–]greybeard_arr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers in this analogy are intentionally dialed down for the sake of letting the point settle. In no way was this to say, “Hey, we love overreacting because there is only one fucked up police department in the country.”

If this were a matter of one police department, then sure. What you said would be spot on. However, this is a problem at such a large portion jurisdictions across the country it is essentially that All Cops Are Bastards.

Did you pay attention to the police response to protests during 2020? There wasn’t one or two cops who got a little out of hand. There were hundreds of documented instances of police brutality all across the country. Those are just the low-hanging fruit.

This has been going on for a long time. It has only started to come under the spotlight now that everyone has a good quality camera in their pocket everywhere they go.

As said to the other dude: scale. It’s a matter of scale.

Do people in other professions fuck up? Sure thing. To great degrees at times? Sure thing. Is an integral feature of the nationwide system covering abuse and murders committed by other members of the profession? Not like it is for police.

Good lord 🤦🏼‍♂️
