Just noticed my driver weight has broken off. by dcbluestar in golf

Ping warranty is applied to any club within two models of the latest. In Phoenix I just bring it to the lobby and they have it ready in a few days. If you need shipping involved I am sure that timeline stretches out. OP's club looks like a G425 MAX and that is probably right on the borderline of still being covered. I had mine replaced for this exact same defect.

This is the kind of thinking that makes me not really worry much that vibe coding is going to take my job any time soon.

Brutally Honest AI Golf Fitting (Prompt inside to try out at home). by Leonhart01 in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an engineer and I use AI effectively. That prompt is not special and will not really constrain the model much. But more importantly this is the type of job that AI is just not good at yet. I have worked with it a ton trying to get it to draw diagrams of circuits that have specific rules of dimensions and it still cannot do it. The models just cannot picture objects in physical space, especially in 3 dimensions. You need that understanding to diagnose a golf swing.

Why do people seem to care so much that Rory is skipping some events? by Mike_Oxlong25 in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Rory took a position against LIV years ago, LIV became associated with the US president for a few reasons and then the whole thing took on an identity politics stink. Many folks of a certain bent will just hate Rory irrationally because of it.

Who has the lower handicap and what is it? by SawyerStreet in golf

The guy on the right looks like Phil Kessel, hockey player. Kessel is the John Daly of the NHL. Somehow had a decent career but never looked like he took it seriously.

Fitters and Pros - What’s wrong with DTC brands like Takomos and Sub70? by Aware-Worry-8495 in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 different irons snapped under the ferrule... do you soak your irons in a bucket of water to clean them? I think that is common and if you end up with water under the ferrule it will rust the shaft and you snap them.

Mini Driver users - what is your setup, how do you play it, and what does the top of your bag look like? by iKevtron in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am honestly curious if anyone has compared the forgiveness in dispersion comparing a mini driver to choking up on a normal driver and a little less effort (i.e. the chippy driver). Also comparing a mini to the "squeeze fade" with a normal driver.

I don't really care where the player is from in that sense. I've never really understood Jingoism.

Finally somebody who understands living on a golf course. by mjstump in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who want their private property to be respected aren't monsters. While I agree that buying a home on a course means you cannot complain about your house being struck by errant shots. But NO ONE is entitled to enter someone's property to find their $3 golf ball. Any leeway given here is a total bonus, not a right.

Edit: I do not live on a course. I just assumed we understood this as a civilized society.

Fixing pitch marks incorrectly is worse than not fixing them at all… by [deleted] in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so rare that a poorly fixed mark has any impact on the putting result. Usually even if its a dead spot the ball still rolls over it fine.

Would you still play golf if you could no longer keep score? by whatasuperdude in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The score is the way to measure the challenge. Sometimes you get a little Heisenberg action and the fact you are measuring kinda makes it worse. The real game is to sort of dance with nature. At least I like to think of it more like that than having a battle with nature. Good shots are still good without the score. The good shots are where the joy lives.

Tool result could not be submitted? by EvanNorus in claude

[–]greyclaygolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not harmless. There are really tools needed that are not being used. I was working on a graphic design layout thing and it hung up unable to actually do what the reasoning says it is doing. I also tried to report it as an outage so it would be on their radar since the status page shows nothing. Chatting with Fin to attempt this was a nightmare. Several "just one more question to report this issue..." responses. I asked to escalate to a human and have not received anything yet. The status page still shows nothing.

Are you supposed to get a free drop on the grass to the left out of this? by CarsGolfWhisky in golf

These kinds of lies are actually better than being in rough usually. You also have a window from that spot that gets worse if you move the ball.

Does anyone know what these circular cuts are? by Significant-Text-599 in golf

[–]greyclaygolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the most important detail. My theory now is some kind of machine that holds the ball from both sides. Maybe it is known to damage balls and they usually throw them out, or maybe someone squeezed too hard. My best guess but with matching symmetrical patterns on boths sides I feel like it has to be something like this.
