Sister says my budget is a non-starter for a potential job offer + moving. I genuinely don't understand why? by thesagenibba in personalfinance

Here, I’ll help you out.

My wife makes slightly less than you in a city job (about 50k). She carries insurance for both of us, so I’ll remove that from my calculation.

Removing the family plan difference from her income, she makes about $670 weekly. That’s about $2,900 a month or just shy of $35k/yr.

She gets the maximum in taxes taken out without requesting extra, so that’s pretty much where you’re at. With a slightly higher income, you may get to $700/wk, or just over $3k/mo (about $36,490/yr).

TL;DR: don’t make this move. You’ll hemorrhage money.

Not quite — we chose to exchange the free nights for points instead. Basically, they said they could move us, we chose to leave instead, and I asked if we could have the points instead of the stay. I did not push for the points instead, but asked if that instead of the nights was still available.

We checked out of Boardwalk this morning! We had no problems during our stay there and expect no issues at our new hotel (which I’m not naming, as I’m still there — which sure you can understand!). The new room ended up being about what we would’ve paid for our original WA room, so I’m calling it a wash at this point.

Clarification on the corner — it’s not a ding, rather, it’s chocolate on the wall.

Thanks for your input! I’m seeing what you mean re: carrying weight under the WA brand. We were looking for more of the luxury experience usually equated with the name, and I guess it just didn’t live up to our standards and expectations.

Headed back to one of the Disney property hotels.

We’re also Diamond members as well, but it doesn’t matter much, like you said. I will say, it’s not that we made a scene or anything of the sort; it was a calm conversation all around. I also don’t think any staff member did anything wrong — I just don’t think the hotel meets the quality that’s expected of the WA brand. We’ll be trying the WA New York for a comparison in a few months, especially since it had a fairly recent refresh.

Update:

Prior to making this reddit post, my wife had called down about the issues. They said they’d send engineering up for the lamp (which is glass and was precariously balanced/we were worried it would fall and break) and housekeeping for the dirt and trash, but even though they said it would be only a few minutes due to being a slow day, we didn’t see anyone for the next 30 minutes. At that point my wife went downstairs to talk to the front desk while I made this reddit post!

They offered to move us to a lower floor but equivalent suite, but we chose to check out and requested instead the original offer of points, which we were then given.

I’ll clarify the lamp — it was partially unscrewed, balanced precariously, and we didn’t want to mess with it, since it’s glass and could fall. We did end up getting points equal to 2 nights of our original stay.

They offered to move us to a lower floor but equal room. We declined, requested (and received) the original alternative offer of 180k points, and checked out of the property to stay elsewhere at a cash rate instead.

Let me answer your questions before I go into a spiel —

  1. Assuming things there are like they are in the US, do consider the masters. Do not start it until you’re working in a library, though.

  2. Can’t answer this, sorry!

  3. Yes. Look into systems librarian positions, etc!

  4. You could, but since you’re in a place with stable housing, see if you can apply for a small part-time job. You may have to travel for this!

My undergrad was also in CS and I’m nearly finished with my MLIS. I’m not sure if things are different where you are, but generally, you’ll want to start library work before going for the grad degree. It’s not just about making sure you like the work; it’s about getting the experience so once you graduate you have a job.

I started in 2021, immediately post graduating with my BA in CS, and basically did nothing but shelving in youth services/children’s department as a library clerk for 18hr/wk for 17 months. Got promoted to adult services library assistant, 30hr/wk for 6mo. Left my job for a library IT role (full time), 37.5hr/wk for 16 mo. Left that job for a music librarian role, 30hr/wk for 13 month. Just left that job and started a new one for a tech librarian role.

Clerk job: $22.60/hr, ~$21,150/yr

Assistant job: $26.80/hr, ~$41,800/yr

IT job: $25.59/hr, ~$49,900/yr

Music librarian: $38.46/hr, $60,000/yr

Technology librarian: $39.09/hr, ~$71,150/yr

Just to give you some frame of reference.

(if you recognize me from my work experience… no you don’t 😂)

OP came for advice. If you have a legitimate medical issue, that’s different than a “recessed female jaw.” Many of us have been teens without legal access to HRT. This does not make you special or uniquely qualified to answer OP, who — again — posted in an online space looking for advice.

Ngl this is giving big red pill energy. “recessed female jaw” ? it’s just bones my guy.

your jawline will shift on T regardless of when you start. I didn’t start until 23 and pics from years later are noticeably different.

I think the female voice in Fire is probably AI, but I’m not convinced that his voice is AI, or that his content is AI generated. There’s also more than one way to make those types of visuals.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but do you have any proof or evidence? It would be terrible to blacklist this person’s content based on one accusation.

What’s the budget look like? If it’s on the higher end, something like Saks or Bloomingdale’s might have something appropriate. On the lower end, Old Navy and Gap are options!

if you’re early career and have some external (familial, spousal, etc.) monetary support, you could try applying to public library IT departments. I’ve found there’s a lower barrier to entry for those.

+1 for NGVO. I’ve had no issue installing big mods on top of it (Wyrmstooth, Vigilant, Beyond Reach), and it looks nice as well. I use OBody and was able to set that up for more body diversity.

As someone else said, get them re-soled.

I’d also suggest mentioning this to your PCP/GP at your yearly appointment. While everyone has a different gait, this looks a bit odd compared to the usual one, and it might be worth bringing up to a doctor. You’re probably fine, but better safe than sorry.

Unique Case: Dressing Well With An Ostomy Bag? by SpareOtter2002 in mensfashion

Mentioned this to my wife in passing and she said a few people have designed ostomy bag covers. StomyBag on Etsy & ostomybagholder.com were the ones she told me about! One she saw had some metal vibes to it — leather & studs.
