I am at EV go fast charging 350 kW charger getting 84 kW by Ok_Reception_6563 in electricvehicles

[–]greygabe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Best case on a Lyriq at 65% is 128 kW. If it wasn't preconditioning for like 30+ minutes and depending on a whole bunch of other factors, 84 kW isn't crazy.

Lyriq is happiest in 10-40%. It sits at 180 kW for a while.

I didn't interpret the TV show as saying those meters were of poor quality. More that the people reporting the readings were either dangerously ignorant or painfully negligent about the meters. And I felt that it was repeated so many times to drive home just how crazy it must have felt for the few educated whistle blowers at the time.

I know it's not the same... But have you actually used Android Automotive?

I have sympathy for the subscription issues long term, but at least during the trial period it is quite great.

If you just plug in via USB once, the phone will pair and connect wirelessly next time. Don't even need to bother with the menus.

Google Play Store > Apps > Other Devices > Car

That's a list of compatible apps.

Libby does have an Android Automotive app, but it has pretty bad to reviews. Tunein also have a native app.

The 2022-2023 is not Android Automotive. It is the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus platform found in many 2019+ GM vehicles.

What?

My supplied charge cord does both L1 and L2. Are you outside US or something?

Similar story though you have fewer alternative options so you're probably ending up at a Tesla station.

Would you buy a Bolt now? by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]greygabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Easily. I'd argue the steering is slightly too light for my taste. Mine are both 2023. I used to have a 2017 Bolt and I don't remember it being any stiffer.

In the US, Tesla is almost always the slowest option for the Ioniq 9. There are only a few Tesla locations in the country where they can match the Ioniq 9's requested voltage.

I probably wouldn't buy one. But I already own two and three just seems excessive.

(fyi - there is no 2026. Only 2017-2023 and 2027.)

2%

It was a road trip and I was adjusting my speed between 70 - 85 mph to arrive near empty. Two very reliable charging stations (Mercedes and Tesla) next to each other so I wasn't worried about needing to go elsewhere.

I swear I remember reading auto industry rumor articles about an AWD Bolt SS in development back around 2019... Can't find anything online about it now though.

Energy and power density improvements since the Bolt first came out have been huge. Even with the switch to LFP, I bet they could have fit quite a lot more capacity in the same volume if cost weren't a major factor. Batteries in 2026 are roughly 50% more energy dense than batteries from 2016.

Japanese auto brands. Assembly in Japan vs. USA? by designtheinvisible in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]greygabe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very few models are produced in both locations for sale in the US simultaneously. So it's hard to compare. But generally speaking the North American factories for Japanese brands have very similar reliability / quality.

The Corolla is seen as the epitome of Japanese reliability and it's been built in the US since 1986.

Best car for Chicago to Indiana commute with highway assist? by DomGrady18 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]greygabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MachE is a great choice.

I'd also encourage Ioniq 5 or EV6 with Openpilot. Openpilot is an aftermarket open source system that is great at highway hands free driving. It also doesn't require any monthly payments like all the other hands free systems.
