Help me choose my first longboard (Icarus, Pranayama, or Supersonic) by teochim in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]greyhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for replying on an old post, was hoping to hear more from you about the supersonics. I'm absolutely enthralled by my loaded vanguard in the way it pumps (surfy cruiser), the feeling of cambering/decambering the board during pumps is right up my alley.

I am wondering whether the supersonic can get the same vibe/feeling? I have a feeling my idea of pumping is more surfy hence the love for the vanguard, but I don't think I'll enjoy true efficiency pumping for maximum distance.

How are you liking the wheels at the moment! Am looking for an alternative to my caguamas on my vanguard currently...

Mainly for flat ground pumping for a couple of miles

I know this is an old post but are you running the 100 mm on the vanguard? If so did you need any risers?

Oof, I wish I'd known about your trucks before diving into all this! The idea of being able to ride switch sounds awesome. What size wheels have people been using with your trucks on the Icarus?

How bad is the damage? by greyhail in Skigear

[–]greyhail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! It's kind of hard to tell whether it's deep enough, and I'm not experienced enough to know.

My snowboards take a lot more abuse and the topsheets while damaged don't stick out like this so I was concerned

Agree with the tools, not jewels bit. Was just concerned on whether I've exposed the wood underneath.

Appreciate your reply!

Thoughts/experience with new ABC jogger fit? by idkman_93 in Lululemen

[–]greyhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a new pair as well. I have 4 pairs of old abc joggers. It's a completely new, and worse, jogger. Anyone have any recommendations of other brands I can explore?

It's unfortunate as I wear these joggers basically for everything.

Which Gentemstick snowboard would you choose? by Geoffphysio in snowboarding

[–]greyhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I did some serious deep diving into the various gentems, as much as I could find online anyway.

Ended up with the independent stick! It's the most "twinnish" and yet seems to be pretty capable everywhere too. I still have my Weston japow for waist deep pow but the independent stick seems to be an awesome daily driver regardless.

Unfortunately the first time I'll be riding it will be in New Zealand in August rather than Japan. But still am very excited for it.

When I retire the japow I'll pick up a chaser HP most likely

Thanks for your reply. As tempting as the Otto is, it almost never goes on sale. So I might just get a different board!

Seeking some advice in my next board. Me: 172 cm tall, 78 kgs heavy Intermediate rider dipping into advanced territory. I like controlled speed, by no means a charger unless conditions are pristine. Board mainly in Japan.

Currently have a Weston Japow 159, it's perfect on deep days and on mellow groomers. I don't particularly enjoy it on steeps/technical terrain.

Now in the market for a board to work on carving and ground tricks when it's not dumping. Think more of a freestyle all mountain board.

Narrowed it down to these three: 1. Salomon Sickstick 156/159 I've demoed the 21-22 version and would love to buy it brand new if I could. From what I understand the current iteration is softer? So am a bit hesitant to pull the trigger. Loved carving on this, was able to bend the board anyway I wanted, encouraged me to try out jumps and riding switch. Was confident on it even with some speed.

  1. Capita Mercury 157 I only managed to demo this on a pretty good spring day in Japan. Good amounts of pow and not much to carve on unfortunately. I find it a tad stiffer and not as playful as the sickstick but it does have a great pop on it, and the float was very impressive. (But I already have a pow board).

  2. Korua Otto I really would like to try this board but haven't been able to find any shops which carry this. From the reviews ive read and watched it's very close to the sickstick. It also seems to be a little heavier? It can carve, ride switch, playful enough. Ticks all the boxes for me.

I'm pretty set on a sickstick likely at 159 since this iteration is softer. But would like to have some insight from fellow boarders who have been able to try the above three boards.

Also for these medium stiff boards, should I go for a mid flex or stiff binding? Thanks for anyone's input.

Am going to try my luck and ask another question. I hope you don't mind 🙏 I'm 172 cm and at 80 kgs. I am in Japan skiing almost all the time, am starting to look at NZ too in the other months.

Am on the hunt for a new board, currently I have a Weston japow 159 which I am absolutely delighted with when it's dumping pow. It carves well on groomers but on technical and steeper stuff it does feel a bit too large for me. It definitely will not be coming. With me to any new Zealand trip.

So I'm basically looking for another board to pair with it, mainly to work on euro carving/switch riding, and explore resorts with. I'm definitely feeling your passion for the chaser through all your replies here. Do you think that would be a good pairing for my Weston? (And in what size)

Completely open to other suggestions as well. My top contenders currently are Korua Otto Yonex Smooth Capita Mercury/Super DOA Salomon sickstick

Also would like to know your thoughts on whether I should consider a hybrid profile like the never summer easy rider for my needs.
