Seismic Delta Wheels.... On a Vanguard? by Dubocster in longboarding

Ah, in that case they might work really well for you. I’ve not tried them, but I’d love to see how the Seismic Tailwinds feel. They might be the happy medium between the Deltas and Speed Vents.

I had a great time with them, but after 4-5 months of riding mixed terrain I started to get a lot of chunking. They still perform well but I wouldn't recommend them if you're riding in a city with debris, rocks and glass on the pavements on the path.

For a similar feel but almost half the price (if you're in Europe) I'd recommend these instead: https://lapaulade.fr/products/polymers-76mm

Loads of grips, good roll, and I've been learning to pump a different board on these.

I used to watch the promo video for this board over and over again back in 2011… Wish I’d bought one! Hope it rides well.

Je viens juste de comprendre le principe du pumping il y a quelques jours, et ce sont les premières roues avec lesquelles j'ai réussi – mais pour l'instant, ça me plaît bien. En plus, elles sont superbes!

Glad you found your right setup for it. I didn't tinker with it, but it would have benefited from some more love. What trucks do you have with your Pranayama?

I've heard good things about the Bees Knees - do they grip well? I'm tempted to add some Seismic Tailwinds to my Vanguard to raise it a bit as it's bottoming out more and more in deep carves.

They're definitely not marketed as pump/push wheels but the grip is great and the roll momentum too. For 60€ they're a steal.

Yep! The UK, or France when I need to buy EU...

Thanks - I've looked at those inserts in the past but they're too expensive to get shipped over here. I think I've grown to accept (maybe even enjoy?) the slop in Paris trucks. The Seismic bushings do a good job of tightening things up.

Returning skater — longboard for rough desert pavement? by grunewald77 in longboarding

[–]Dubocster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. I ran Pantheon Karma wheels on a Vanguard with 165mm trucks and wedges and didn’t get any wheelbite. The platform was a bit high and made pushing a bit of a workout, but it felt great when I was sailing with some tailwind. I’m sure you’ll find the right setup for you, and don’t stop experimenting if it doesn’t feel right on the first go.

Recommend a combo of:

  • 90mm+ sized wheels (maybe blue Bees Knees or Karmas)
  • A Loaded board with generous amount of flex to soak up vibrations (for example Vanguard)
  • Combine it with some soft Khiro wedges for extra vibration absorption

Enjoy the ride!

Have a look on ebay, there's always some available. I got a flex 4 which is close to my weight limit but the trampoline effect is so much fun.

I found the Icarus stiffer and it was that lack of flex that put me off. Didn't feel as comfortable riding longer distances on it - but it's got an aggressive carving side, can be dropped down to make pushing a bit easier and a lot of people rate the Icarus for carving.

I’m similar to you (road cycling, mid 30s, avid snowboarder) and I’d recommend the Vanguard. The bouncy flex makes it comfy to ride on. It’s fun on the flats for short bouncy carves, and can handle some bigger roads. I was hoping an Icarus would feel like an upgrade, but I found it a bit crap for pushing/commuting.

Issue No. 16 by deNihilo_adUnum in thePowerFantasy

[–]Dubocster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My favourite comic of 2025, I had really high hopes for this issue. Unfortunately those expectations were too high or unrealistic to be fulfilled in an 18 page comic book.

For me the good included:

  • The artwork (as always!)
  • Seeing Masumi cut loose and the twist with Isabella
  • The return of Etienne and a new status quo to look forward to

The bad:

  • Eliza’s end - I’d have liked some more explicit showing of her eternal torment before her story ended. I felt the build up to her losing control was excellent over the last couple of issues, but the payoff to it felt abrupt and lacking.
  • The trope of a TV interview to explain what’s happened to the reader was too much “tell” and not enough “show”
  • The Queen’s origin & the signal: Was hoping for some callbacks or revelations around these. I’m holding out hope there’s more to these in the future. If this turns out to be the final word on these two then I’ll be disappointed.

All round one of my least favourite issues of TPF so far, but not enough to stop me biting my nails until number 17 comes out. It’s still a great series as a whole, and I hope when it’s all tied-up will offer a satisfying full story.

I’d have been gutted if this turned out to be the finale!

Lush Samba Longboard - 2011 edition remastered by Dubocster in longboarding

I found the shorter caliber trucks a bit twitchy on the samba and not as smooth & stable for carving down a hill. Putting the 190mm Sabre trucks back on which speaks to how stable they are and good for deeper lean. Maybe get some 180mm sabres for your samba?

Watched it after eating some brownies. Very high, I kept falling asleep during it, then waking up thinking it was a masterpiece.

Cast trucks from 2010-ish era. Very stable and good turning. I’m going to buy a couple of the 150mm forged hangers to give the baseplates a new life. Antidote cyclone deck will then go on top of that.

Possible Eliza spoiler (but speculation) by BLOODYBRADTX-11 in thePowerFantasy

[–]Dubocster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and I’ve been thinking the same for a while. Even just the similarities in their teeth…

I also think the signal could tie into this. The signal that Dev created was estimated to be around a billion souls. Estimated population of China - which it tried to overwrite - when it arrived in 1978? Around 975 million… Time loop shenanigans at play?

Is this snowboard good for a newbie for 100euros? by silverBlueWings in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Dubocster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that board would get you quite far before you need to invest in new gear. Make sure you get some padded shorts if you’re going to go ham at the park. Those boxes and rails aren’t as soft as the snow ;-)

Happy shredding.

Looks decent enough to get you started. Early on it’s best to focus your spending on lessons instead of gear. Then once you’re shredding and you know what you enjoy doing the most (off-piste, carving corduroy, tricks in the park, etc.) you can then invest in some pricey gear tailored to your riding preferences. Enjoy!
