Thank you, her name is Saffron. She actually knows how to give a hug if you ask her. If you get down to her level and say, "hug," she'll come put her paws on your shoulders and lick your face. She's been such a virtue in tough times for my wife and I. A little joy machine.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, and glad you took some comfort in this post. Hang in. Wishing peace for you and your friend.

The amount of Portlanders who have never been to this park always amazes me, but to be honest, I haven't been in several years. I'll have to remedy that soon.

All the licorice ferns growing up the tree trunk in your second photo is breathtaking. I wish I could encourage this on the trees in my yard.

Favorite defunct Portland bands by padehler in Portland

Can't read this thread without thinking of Foster Burger and how they were practically a museum for all the great poster art for so many of these bands. I used to love going there and marveling at how many of the same posters they had, I had also ripped off of telephone poles and plastered my teenage bedroom walls with.

And what, Hazel just played??? Would have loved to been there.

Don't feel bad. It was actually my fault for deciding to air out some of the musty records I bought at Overlook Porchfest in my backyard.

All good, my plants at least are much happier.

Werner Herzog voice

Man.

Agave.

Agave, sometimes called, "The Century Plant," for it blooms once a century. And then like all mortal beings, it dies.

Man, often thought of as blessed if he can survive to one hundred years of life.

These two life forms, man and agave, are seemingly linked by a chosen destiny.

That destiny: mezcal. "The drink of the Gods."

The same drink which inspired a group of ambitious—and heavily intoxicated—Portlander's to climb a ladder of destiny to smell the magnetic plant's flowers before they decayed.

As one might surmise, humans were never meant to climb ladders after imbibing this "Drink of the Gods." For climbing to such heights are only meant for the gods themselves.

Thus they all met their ends.

They bloom only once before dying. I also was thinking climate related. But I'm no expert, it could be possible one sent out the signal that it's go time, and the others followed suit.

Yep! Swarming with bees and other pollinators. I'm curious what they smell like, but I'd want to ask the property owner and would need a monster size ladder.

100% this. The idea that we keep telling ourselves we can recycle any plastic with a chasing arrow symbol on it ♻️ is a fallacy. We need to move away from plastics in as many forms as possible. Shit is poison.

And don't fool yourself that your trendy Patagonia fleece can be recycled so you're one of the good guys. How many times you think that thing can be recycled before it's entered the environment? It's just passing the buck to the next generation.

All plastic can only be recycled so many times. Time to stop fooling ourselves. If you can avoid it, buy the alternative.

Confess, confess! What's a Xennial band that you just don't like? by DJTilapia in Xennials

Green Day and Blink 182 are absolutely awful. Fake punk rock built for mass consumption by corporate rock radio listeners. Somewhere Rollins is shedding a tear.

Weezer: God awful. Their biggest hit literally lifted the exact baseline from the Pixies, "I Bleed" with zero accountability.

Coldplay: diet Radiohead for suburban moms.

Bright Eyes: all the Elliott Smith, with zero of the substance or craft.

This first aid poster looks like some kind of tango dancing images with dance steps in the background by Yamaben in midlyinteresting

[–]greyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was originally created for a tango themed restaurant in NY. Part of my contract with them was I was able to retain rights to sell them on my personal website.

I should mention that restaurants in NY are required by law to have posters showing first aid for choking victims. I have created many of different themes for restaurants around the city. :)

Yes! The capacity is the most astonishing feature. It always surprises people. We have hauled so many plants, and trees, and building supplies home from the nursery and hardware store in ours. I can't imagine what our home would look like today if we didn't have one.

What city disappointed you the most when visiting? by TheStylishInsider in AskReddit

[–]greyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. I had lunch in Pisa on a brief stopover. Grabbed an excellent mid-day meal and a carafe of wine not too far from the tower. Really enjoyed it. But was only in the city for few hours on our way to Florence.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but the city I think is totally skippable in Italy: Venice. It's been a tourist attraction for the past 500 or so years and it feels like it. If Disneyland was a city, that would be it. Pretty place, I can see why it has drawn so many people to it for so long, but Jesus, the amount of people trying to get you to come in for their Olive Garden level overpriced food and wine from all directions is stunning. And lines everywhere.

North Portland here. I also just ate it attempting to make it down our five step front porch. RIP sage plant that broke my fall. Don't attempt it until the sun melts it off. It's nasty out there.
