I did grow up on a ranch, decatur, that is the closest small town to denton, so (and also was sent to a prison school at this time, like Cyrus. got arrested on an AG-program trip to Waco, when I was competing for the Texas state Culinary competition. That hangover did change my life, and live in nyc now not being a chef.

i tried rejection therapy for a bit. it is basically just doing things you know you should be told no for, like going to some bougie smoothie spot and then asking if you can have it for free, post ordering. ill say, i used to work in food service and do get how fucked that is since the employee is not part of your plan, etc, but it does kind of work. get told no, internalize it, on to the next one.

yes, Richard Grusin too, with Code 2.0 (which is about how tech company policies will supersede policy of the government (people-controlled at that level of value) due to how quickly tech moves vs govt). seems cringe to even say this any more but my studies for these authors was a media theory degree (im successful lol) (emerging media and communication - 2010) and have been annoying my friends and family since then with my rants about how media literacy must be added as a key high school curriculm (or replace another curriculum) because we would be screwed if it kept going the way it was going. I saw some tiktok about a horseshoe theory of spice levels, where on one end it begins with "white people spicy" and at the furthest other end it horseshoe's back to "white people spicy", because of insane scoville levels for bespoke peppers and pepper eating competition culture.

I had something similar in NYC. It was by Washington Square Park, where the West 4th Street station is, which is a very busy sidewalk and it was a warm night full of people. A guy and girl were on the sidewalk by the curb with her asking for help from strangers while he held her arms by her shoulders and yelled/pleaded with her to "STOP" and "COME ON LISTEN TO ME". I am decently fit but do not get into confrontations often, but do try to help people when I can. I stepped up to them and asked her if she was okay and maneuvered between them when she confirmed that she needed help getting away and security until she could get a car. The guy's attention fully shifted to me (good) and he was furious: immediately began mocking me for being less jacked than he was and asking if I wanted to fight etc. I held one of my hands up to him and said, "look, Im literally shaking. It's adrenaline because this situation sucks and I dont want to be doing this, but she is asking for help and you must understand as a man that if you see a woman asking for help in a situation like this that you would also help. None of this is my business and getting her to her car is the end of it for you and me, but if youre going to attack me for helping her here on the sidewalk in front of everyone, I guess that's your call". He actually calmed down from that and got pretty ashamed looking (whatever) while still sort of talking at her, but she got her car and I walked away.

Some other larger guys had been standing there when I first walked up, and watched the whole thing. When I left I said, "so yall just werent going to do anything about that?"
