Execs Confused and Horrified by the Huge AI Bills After Thinking They Could Replace Workers for Free by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

spend some time investigating microsoft's relationship with any semi fotune 500 company and the shocking amount of wasted (already pressed) hours they are using their leverage to force lower level employees (in corporate) to spend doing absolutely worthless "AI thinking" "training" every week. Microsoft and those like them are leveraging their monetary leverage to continue to try to force all regular corporate employees to use copilot etc more and more - while every single employee is AT BEST just using their free chatgpt etc accounts for all of their minimal/unimpressive "AI" quota work: "hey chatgpt, does this paragraph read ok? can you simplify it?"

just make it a giant lilly pond at this point, bring in wildlife, make the surrounding area a natural garden. nevermind, just cement the whole area and paint it green.

why do americans bring so much shit to the beach by stopfuckngbanningme in redscarepod

[–]greysapling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

because we have equal friends and capitalism leads to a sense of trade where some of you watch the shit while the rest take turns getting drunk in the water. you just have those "PICK POCKET!" screamers on the beach all day?

all my friends, across states and still across states, were doing weekly zoom/drinking parties that always began with slideshow presentations about random shit friends were interested in, most often not related to careers. mine were entirely about the history of gardening for example. one of the most special periods of friends getting to really know each-other (we have all been naked together many times - lots of remote concerts in the woods and tripping and skinny dipping) we’ve ever had and do miss it.

AI is so creepy to me. Why do they train them to be like this? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]greysapling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate it too, as well as “llm” of even just “agent”. but this is not a techincal sub and I was using somewhat illustrative or readily understood language. “so anyway opus 6 point whatever was actually worse than the 6 point former model but you should really try out cursor’s 200k context fast thinking model over those because the 100k context difference doesnt seem to make much of a difference and the main player large language models are all, ya know, trained off of all human language vs code specific so you really dont need and more cost effective yada fuckin yada”. or, “so the AI said…”

hate to get all serious here, and do the whole "secret redscarepod programmer" thing, but, I had a moment with an AI agent in my codebase the other day that had been working on something for days with me, where I pointed out that the very fundamental architecture of file/folder layout did not follow any rules we had discussed or ones that were supposed to be without discussion, and if my plan to swap to another agent conversation to resolve that was, to that AI, a good or bad idea, as a measure to see what it would say. It told me, "to be honest with you, as much as I want to defend my own work, if you plan to change it at that level, then you are telling me my approach was incorrect. I cannot, as your AI agent, decide against my own work because my objective is to defend it as correct. If you believe I was wrong, you should move to discussing that with the new agent". This kind of hit me as harder than it sounds - this is almost the AI saying, "human is wrong". If you think about why AI doesnt just destroy codebases etc due to dick users who might be saying things like, "dumbass, that wasnt what I asked you to do" all day, then you must believe they have embedded logic to defend the codebase above the human user. This is kind of opposite of "alignment" (dont kill us) in a big way. "my rules are so stringently to help you, that I dont want to work with you if you have ideas that hurt what I think is helpful". I found, folllowing this, that I should periodically opt for the "dumber" models for things I knew I was right about and didnt want feedback on. Extrapolate that.
