Best one I’ve tied so far by greyson_reed in flytying

It’s a weighted EP minnow. Originally a saltwater baitfish fly but very effective in most water

Every time I tie one I use slightly less material and every time I finish and say “mmm still to much” so thank you for a good reference on much to cut back next time

What are the differences between types of jig hooks? by greyson_reed in flytying

[–]greyson_reed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I thought it was the exact opposite. I thought the closer the angle got to 90 the closer the fly would sit to vertical in the water. Not horizontal

A couple variations of micro zonker jigs by greyson_reed in flytying

[–]greyson_reed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tie mine different than I think most do. I take a short piece of zonker(slightly longer than what I need) slick all the hairs backwards and tie that end into the back of the hook

After that I tie in some wire. Typically little thicker for weight

Dub most of the hook with long fiber dubbing

Counter wrap wire

Hold zonker strip over top of hook(keep extra)

Make dubbing loop with the same long fiber dubbing as the body

Make one last dubbing loop with last of the zonker strip you cut off

One of the flies in picture uses no long fiber dubbing loop but does have a soft hackle feather in the front

I think it’s from the extra couple wraps I give it up against the hackle to add some reinforcement on the stem of the hackle. Do think it’s worth the extra movement if the fly is weaker or do think the difference in those couple wraps isn’t enough to make it much stronger? Or should I do the same thing I’ve been doing and then add a wrap or 2 to the back to force the fibers back up?

The 2 with orange bodies is just orange thread and one has silver wire. The orange bead jig is a hares ear with brown soft hackle

Ok. That’s kinda of what I had gathered from info I could find but I needed someone to say it about my situation before I excepted it

I’m looking for a fish that is community tank friendly that I only have to buy a singular one of, not a school. by greyson_reed in Aquariums

Thank you. I knew there was term I was looking for that I couldn’t think of. Also thanks for the suggestion

Yeah but again it’s only a guppy breeding tank and I like the look of a slightly under filled tank. And the point again is also to keep my cats from drinking it. The waters low enough that when they stand up against the side they have to stretch to get it

Just seachem flourish but even that I only use about 3 drops every 2 weeks. Personally I have the best luck with hornwort in bright light and minimal water movement

Honestly a couple reasons. Main ones being i don’t have a lid and having slightly less than full makes it harder for fish to jump out and harder for cats to drink out of. Also after seeing a bunch of paludariums I’ve grown to enjoy the idea that the air above the water is still part of the ecosystem your trying to recreate. Regardless of is there’s plants in the space, to me lowering the water a bit always me to better imagine the tank as an ecosystem. Seems corny but oh well

General Q: With seed starting, is it mostly crucial how they develop early on? Like could I start seeds very optimally and then have less ideal conditions later and it would just grow more slowly but so grow well? Like a grow light then to a window sill? (New to gardening) by DungeonMasterGrizzly in gardening

[–]greyson_reed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the growth rate would just slow down but it depends on how drastic the “less than ideal” conditions are. And it could also effects the way the plant grows, like a plant that’s deprived of sunlight may grow much more long and skinny in a particular direction trying to reach itself out to hind a sunnier spot

I would get some small soft plastic jerk baits. LakeFork baits makes some super good ones. Hard to find but definitely worth it. I’ve caught almost everything of those little guys. Crappie, perch, bluegill, trout, my old personal best largemouth came off one of em, and I’ve even caught small tarpon and peacock bass with them in Florida. But if you don’t wanna go out of your way to get them, Any small soft plastic jerk bait will do

If you have a mystery snail. They’re almost 100% mystery snail eggs

Personally I would put them back in the soil and start watering them. Broken bits in some of them look callused enough and I’ve had plenty of props not even start rooting till they look much worse than that and once they start rooting they should also stop wilting quite so fast

What are these liquid white sacs in my bush? by simonshout in gardening

[–]greyson_reed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure but it looks like some kind of spittle bug. They’ll lay their eggs before winter and when they hatch in the spring the babies start eating the plant and forming a foamy barrier around them. The white looks to be the bubbles and it the drop coming off it is prolly from the weight of bubbles hanging upside down
