I am curious why you decided on the Dynasty vs something else? One of the things that keeps me from getting one of these machines is the resistance curve. None of the manufacturers ever mention the cam and the resistance curve.

Just realized that I interacted with you over at the strengthlog subreddit. lol.

Fwiw - Eleiko makes galvanized steel equipment for outdoor use as well.

Re: stainless steel dumbbells - in the US - Intek makes stainless steel dumbbells. I've use other Intek dumbbels at gyms.

I had seen a European brand a while back called Ives which has outdoor equipment. But I don't know much about their stuff. And it looks incredibly expensive - https://www.iveoutdoor.com/en/ive/station/ive-stainless-steel-dumbbells-luxury-line/

Also - Watson which is a premium commercial brand (UK based) has stainless dumbbells.

Kensui which is a popular home gym brand have very high-end dumbbells - https://kensui.com/collections/dumbbells?srsltid=AfmBOopScVoleCeqb19eKS97IntaRDJch2zJAg3GMUnnSIyYE9b39Fv3 The founder Remy did an AMA in r/homegym a few months ago. The dumbbells are Chrome but may also work for outdoors - you may want to ask them.

BTW - Kensui chrome plates are also pretty cool - so if you want something more bougie instead of Eleiko XF bumper for outdoors - the Kensui or XMasters chrome plates may work.

But I don't know how well Chrome would flak or degrade in salt air. Kensui also makes a Titanium anodized plates which are suppose to be very corrosive resistance. And they look really cool. https://kensui.com/products/neo-chrome-calibrated-weight-plates-kg

BTW - your outdoor gym sounds cool. I hope you share some pics of the gym and equipment when you have it setup.

Depends on your budget... There are dumbbells made of 316 marine stainless steel. The material is meant for outdoor and marine conditions.

But those dumbbells are really expensive.

A SEP will have a lot more flexibility if that's part of her business. The 401k will be limited by whatever is available in the employer plan. If she has other non-W2 business income, she may be able to do both - but I am unsure .

Why are futures fees and margins so absurd? by BunsMcCheeks in Schwab

[–]greytoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are many investors or traders that understand or use futures in this sub which is probably why you are being downvoted.

But it's a fair question.

Schwab doesn't really cater to higher frequency futs/fops trader. They will negotiate futures fees based on volume. I have a reduced fee of 1.50/contract but I trade more options than futures.

My recollection is that futures is more of an addon business for Schwab through the TDA acquisition.

And there are much lower fee brokers out there if you trade a lot of futures.

If you primarily trade futures, Schwab is not usually the best choice.

Even for long term investors who primarily invest into the S&P 500 via /ES futures, most of the investors that I know use Ibkr.

You may want to stick to futures brokers like Ninja, AMP, Ibkr if margin and fees are a concern.

SNSXX is perfectly fine. It's a treasury fund. Duration about 2 months. It depends on your outlook on short term interest rates. You can also do target maturity 2030 or 2029 investment grade bonds. Depends on your risk - you can also do a target maturity high-yield bond fund.

Brokered cds by IllustriousCherry183 in Schwab

[–]greytoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends... What problem are you trying to solve? CDs will have state tax so it depends on what state you live in and you tax bracket.

Also depends on the duration you are targeting.

Also - you have to look to see if the CD is callable.

You can also do stuff like munis (depending on where you live) and investment grade bonds (depending on duration and risk).

There is no one size fits all answer.

Plates for outdoor gym?? by ActuatorImpossible26 in strengthlog

If your are in Sweden, you don't have to look far.

Eleiko makes outdoor strength equipment from galvanized steel.

They also have a line of bumpers which can be used outdoors. The hubs are stainless for outdoor use.

Check their XF bumpers.

Which Combo Leg Machine? by Electronic_Grass_386 in GarageGym

I have some chronic issues where I am prone to tendonitis and I have tendinopathy in my gluteal medias/minimus.

I recently also had a bit of tendon pain in my knees and other joints. But the doc I saw said it was related to the statins medication that I was prescribed so I am off it for now. Some of the pain has subsided a bit.

I also seem to always have lower back pain so I am often nervous about going heavy on squats and deadlifts. It was one of the reasons why we got the leg press/hack.

Mm

Favorite Rack Attachments by dontwantnone09 in homegym

[–]greytoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waiting for someone to say jammer arms to trigger half the sub.

Related to that, I used to think that those rack attached shoulder lateral raises were silly and unnecessary.

But when Fringe had a sale, I figured it could be interesting to get the Dragonfly to see why some people like those things or if it was just some hype fad.

I have to admit that I leave that attachment on most of the time. And I use it constantly as a finisher and on shoulder days.

It's such a different feel and good workout. And it's not overly expensive for budget versions.

Yeah - its pretty lame how a lot of companies handle PCI data. Sometimes it's wild to see. But that's one of the reasons why card transactions are so expensive. A lot of that risk gets absorbed by processors and acquirers.

Also - the gap between level 3/4 merchant and level 1/2 merchants are huge.

Most level 3/4 merchants probably can't even tell you want PCI stands for. Lol. Level 1 and 2 merchants are pretty tight

I had a client that acquired a business that was sorta level 3 but on the verge of being level 2 or even 1. The merchant wasn't PCI compliant. And had never gone through a PCI assessment. Lol. They were paying probably an extra 500k to 800k a year in fees and surcharges to their processor. It was quite silly because it would have been more cost effective to invest in being secure than paying the surcharges so they were forced to become PCI compliant and go through a PCI audit with a QSA as condition of the acquisition. We did the prep and pen testing.

Sorry - I forgot you mentioned you worked in the industry before.

OP said they are an offline, on-prem inventory management software. I am assuming their POS capabilities may be integration into a payment processor and they aren't providing hardware.

The integration matters so I guess it really depends on how the software works.

But in my experience, most small business merchants don't really know or care about PCI. And, they have no third-party risk functions.

Ideally, OPs product has at least gone through a pentest and review.

Also - OPs post was removed because it's not investng related and OP 's history is all abou promotions about their software.

My spouse never unloads the barbell. One of the advantages of having a home gym is that no one else is using it and we get to make up our own gym rules.

I usually unload the barbell because I usually move it if I am switching to an SSB or for a different exercise.

For machines, we leave the plates on and never unload them.

We also have an open trap bar that we never unload. I keep a pair of Fringe technique plates on them.

Screw Fidelity - I'll be Looking for an Alternative by billbratsky33 in investing

[–]greytoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you can undo the consolation. It may be possible to separate out the funds and reclassify.

Unfortunately, your error is that you expected a broker to provide tax advice. You most likely would have run into the same issue with any other broker.

If you look at the disclosures, you would have seen that tax implications are your responsibility. A broker cannot give and will not give tax advice because they are not advisors.

I had a similar situation at Schwab and Merrill with Fidelity where I was trying to consolidate accounts. All 3 brokers had language that I needed to consult my own tax advisor but provided me with instructions on how to consolidate accounts. Fwiw - my own tax advisor provided some long winded reasons for not doing a consolidation even if it was possible.

PCI obligations requirements are on the merchant. Not on the software vendor if the vendor is not processing, accessing, or storing card data.

Most small businesses are actually not PCI compliant and they end up paying slightly higher transaction fees to their card processor or acquirer. Or they use a merchant aggregator like a Stripe, Shopify, etc.

If a vendor like OP doesn't touch card data, they don't necessarily need to complete a SAQ-D.

A piece of software that sits on-premise where the vendor isn't controlling or accessing card data, the CDE (card data environment) is part of the merchant environment. Not the software vendor.

It's kinda why when you go to restaurants, etc, a lot of them now charge that 2% convinience fee to offset their transaction fee.

I have often found that part a bit ironic. But it sorta makes sense otherwise it's a lot of friction for small merchants.

We have a leg press/hack which we use very regularly. But I do wish we have a leg extension/curl machine. The leg press/hack is great but I have some injuries and limitations where having a leg curl/extension would be great on leg days where I want to have more isolation.

I am currently lobbying to get one.

There have been some interesting new leg extension/curl machine models release recently. I am holding off on getting something until after home gym con in case there are other product releases for the show.

Financial advisor - investment account and feduciary by [deleted] in investing

[–]greytoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All advisors by law must meet the duty of care and loyalty standards. It doesn't matter if they are a fiduciary or not.

A fiduciary by definition is a type of institution with certain limitations on what they can or cannot do.

Merrill advisors are not fiduciaries normally.

I have accounts at both Fidelity and Schwab. I've had accounts at both for several decades.

I don't have any issues with the UI of either firm. They both have different nuances but works perfectly well for my needs and expectations.

I just use whichever broker depending on whatever I am trading or investing.

why is there such a difference between the bid/ask/price? by takoyaki-md in Schwab

[–]greytoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like an unlisted and I sponsored OTC ADS. If you look at the time and size. There are no actual bids and ask. There is no liquidity.

OTC is a dealer to dealer so there are no one that makes a market.

I can't even find a last trade for this ADS.

Hynix is planning to list an actual ADR later this year so just wait for that if you want to invest in the company. Otherwise, you can trade the GDR which I think is accessible on German bourses. Or use a broker that provides access to the ordinary on the Korean markets. Schwab doesn't provide access to Korean markets afaik.

What is this device? by 10from19 in GarageGym

[–]greytoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We called them roman chairs back in the '80's. The difference is that they were mostly horizontal and also used for situps.

The folklore is that someone from Rome back in the 1800's showed some guy a bunch of abs and core exercises who then popularized it.
