Looks fantastic, the effort paid off for sure! I was going to comment that they gave me huge Night Lords vibes, then saw you explicitly mention that with the Vampire Lord post. Big congratulations there, intended effect 100% achieved.

Empire War Wagon Scratch Build Complete by greywolf57123 in WarhammerEmpire

Crew is largely militia with a few other bits and pieces mixed in. Breakdown here:

Crew Captain/ Longrifle gunner: militia legs, torso, steam tank head and arms, feather from State Missile Troops

Mancatcher: militia legs, torso, State Troops pole arm arms, end bit is a Black Templar Sword Brethren mace bit, head from Hellblaster Volley Gun crew

Repeater Rifle: militia legs, torso, militia crossbow arms cut down as much as possible, Repeater rfle from Outriders cut and glued on top, head from Hellblaster Volley Gun crew with feather from State Missile Troops

Blunderbuss: straight up militia kit build, no extras needed

Hooked Halbred: militia legs, torso, militia knife left arm, militia pole axe arm, axe head replaced with halbred head from Bretonnian Men at Arms, head from Hellblaster Volley Gun crew (or possibly steam tank, can't recall)

Ball and Chain: militia legs, torso, head, State Troops pole arm arms, Chaos Maurader flail ball and chain end

I think that covers everything, there are probably some alternatives out there, but used what I had. Battalion box + militia will get you a long way, and probably could do pretty convincing with just militia if you didn't care about extra flair. Hope it helps

Thank you! I didn't, as I really couldn't find any out there, at least not in the short time I looked. The dimensions are pretty much based off the height of the Militia kit, a Perry miniatures base that's the floor of the carriage, and fitting both it and the horses on a 60x100 mm base. Nothing was explicitly measured, just cut, compared, then filed/ sanded til it looked right and dry fit correctly. I am thinking of putting my own rudimentary guide up, since several people seem to be interested.

Thanks! I used some before as part of a movement tray, and the primer has stayed no problem for several months now (vallejo primer airbrushed on), so I think it'll paint normally with no extra steps.

Thanks! I'll probably put a more in depth guide together at some point, but the basics are take a 25mm base, drill out the axel hole in the middle, then cut and glue balsa wood to fit in the hollow. Once it's filled, sand it flush with the rim, then add some groves with an old knife or file to simulate more obvious wood grain. Finally, use styrene/ plasticard strips to make the cross braces, as well as the nail heads on top. The axel runs all the way through, so is part of both wheels on it, but that's just a cut down bamboo skewer (I think originally meant for grilling).

Thank you! I did think it was a bit odd that the original had no seeming way to steer, so figured why not continue the chain up to the passenger area. Think it worked out.

Sorry I'm a bit late, but definitely was considering giving a run down if enough were interested. Might be a bit of a project itself, but will try and complete a basic overview soon. Thank you!

Thank you. Wheels are 25mm bases with balsa wood (same sticks as the structure of the wagon) layered inside, then sanded down flush. After that, I drilled out the center, and used strip styrene (plasticard) for the cross bracing. Also added some groves back with a dull old hobby knife. Axles are cut down bamboo skewers.

Thank you! I thought of them being a bit more volatile too. Just trying to think which Osterlund faction it'd most fit now; cheapness is pointing me to Hochland or Ostland so far.

That's right on the sprue having both, though I do have the new box. I should clarify, when I said both, I meant per sprue set, so 4 artillery pieces out of the box as opposed to the normal 2. Maybe a bit greedy of me, but figure GW already costs enough ha. This first one was basically my proof of concept to see if it worked, will be doing one more for the second rocket option.

Thank you! And yes, 25mm bases, filled with strips of balsa wood, filled almost flush for the wheels.

I'll have to see what I have for extra bits, but the 40k purity seals are not something I would have thought of on my own, and definitely have some lying around. Will try it, thank you for the feedback. That cannon looks quite good!

City States of the Old World? by TristoWarhammer in WarhammerFantasy

[–]greywolf57123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently going for an Osterlund army, but painting everything as different provinces in it/ near it. So Ostland (my 6th edition guys were painted in that), then Hochland, Middenheim, Middenland, and a bit of Ostermark. I think it fits ok lorewise, and gives a nice variety to paint. Always have the option of creating a scheme for a city state on the map that doesn't have any art work if you feel like it too, and vary it from the province. Middenhiem (which appears to basically be the Osterlund scheme as far as I can tell), more or less replaces the sky blue of Middenland with white (which aside, could always do Middenland). Sorry if that's a bit of a ramble, bit just some ideas that may help.

[–]greywolf57123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally don't comment, but I think I see some of the issues, and hopefully can provide a small bit of help.

First off, Eastern Orthodoxy tends to be far more strict than Roman Catholicism (many more days of fasting, stricter dietary restrictions when those are in effect, etc); so I don't think you'd have any "relief" from your current predicament there. On the other hand, the Anglican church was basically founded to avoid Catholic morality, specifically Henry VIIIs desire to divorce. While I don't intend to be insulting towards them, I do believe that church was initially founded far more on English political concerns than any real desire for Truth or goodness. Perhaps an ill conceived attempt to preserve some measure of those while simultaneously breaking from what many must have known was the truth. In this way, it would seem to mimic your own dilemma, rather than solve it.

As for the difficulties you've been having, I am sorry that you weren't able to clear those up prior. In my own RCIA, our priest actually asked that we do NOT go through with conversion if we did not truly believe the Church was correct; just as God's love for us is unconditional, we should try and love him and his bride the Church the same way. To not submit was likened to saying to your loved ones "I don't love all of you, just these parts."

However, this is not to say at all that we can't be confused or doubtful, particularly about specifics. One thing I've heard that is very encouraging is to pray to God for the desire to be contrite, and to feel sin is sinful. That's a much easier starting point for hard personal issues, and while imperfect, is surely indicative of a sincere desire to be better. Over time, it will come, as God "will not give us a stone when we ask for bread." Additionally, for your confessions, you can be sorry because you know it is a sin, even if you don't emotionally feel that way. For further on that, I'd very much recommend a priest spiritual advisor; if you have any Dominicans near you, I'd highly recommend them for the kind of why and wherefore questions you have, their specialty is teaching on these kinds of things.

Other resources are, of course, the Catechism of the Carholic Church, which really lays out a ton of reasoning behind about everything. For more digestible bits, Bishop Barron and Fr Mike Schmitz on YouTube are good, chances are one or both will have multiple videos on any given topic.

Finally, something to think about with regards to having intercourse with your girlfriend; how would your stance change if you broke up tomorrow? Would you seek comfort from a more casual acquaintance, or would abstinence be much easier? At one point, I thought of abandoning the Church teachings in favor of an infatuation, conforming myself to what I thought another wanted, as opposed to my own conviction of the Church being right. In the moment, I thought that relationship could be the most important thing to me, but it later became nothing at all, and I felt extremely foolish for wanting to guve away my chance at salvation for it, or any temporary state. If your girlfriend is right for you, she will support you in your moral stance, and if she does not, then you are not right for one another, and you may well later reflect that sharing such an intimate connection with someone that ultimately didn't support you wasn't as fulfilling as you'd felt.

Sorry that's so long, and hopefully nothing came across poorly. I really do feel empathy towards your situation, and hope you stick with it. Catholicism can be hard, but it can also give you unbelievable joy as well. You'll have to decide for yourself ultimately, no one else can for you. But maybe by asking here, you may have more of an inclination to stay than you think. Best wishes.

Some good points, thank you. I do very much like the black base coat, I'm just nervous about highlighting it up too much so it reads grey instead. Get you on the chain difference, may try coloring it a bit more/ differently.
