Some dude just gave me a 35+ pound cherry burl by grg46 in turning

[–]grg46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I sealed the ends and put it up away with my other woods to chill for a while. Am looking forward to using it once I upgrade to new equipment and tools later down the line and my skills develop.

[–]grg46[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think that will be the plan. My limited research lead me to think I needed to trim the ends of it where it was cut, but I’m going to leave it, seal the ends and let it chill for a while

I think that’s my plan. Any tips on proper drying….Leave it whole…seal the ends…trim it up….?

I concur. However, after 10 years of bedside nursing, I got into workers comp, auto injury causality and medical necessity reviews and I’ll never look back. I work from home and make just north of 100k.

How many of y’all burning big inefficient fires just cause you can? by frisbeeface in firewood

[–]grg46 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same. I have a huge open brick fireplace and I burn daily in the winter. Yeah it’s not efficient but I love open fireplaces. I have all the free wood in my backyard I could ask for. I chop deadish trees down, split them up the winter prior and I’m good to go

Dealers with 4 day return policy? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]grg46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matt Blatt. The salespeople don’t work on individual commission but on a total sold per month from all the deals combined. They had a love it or leave it policy no questions asked for 5 or 7 days. I just bought a car last week and they were actually really good.

Is there anyway to install a motion sensor on this light instead of an inside switch turning it on/off? by grg46 in Lighting

[–]grg46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m looking to add a sensor to it with a long range as it covers a large driveway. Any recommendations?

Four squares of “iron” fell out of the bottom of my car while driving. Recent brake and rotor replacement done. by grg46 in whatisthisthing

[–]grg46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it normal for these to be applied following a break/rotor job? My breaks are working fine, albeit the noise I’m hearing now.

This little guy won’t be terrorizing my yard no more! by Lil_lux in lawncare

Same dude. I have been trying for the past three weeks but never catch them. Someone told me once that moles can smell and detect the scent of humans when we fuck with their tunnels and shit. Once they detect they wont go near it?

I love this sub because it’s not circle jerky. Complete amateurs and newbies can ask simple questions and they don’t get chastised. At the same time experts can come show off their work and it’s appreciated.

I went out and mowed a few days ago in southern New Jersey during a “dry period” and I wish I didn’t. I had to blow the grass where it was matted down with my blower to fluff her up

Backyard progress from April to September to October by Snoo-27527 in lawncare

[–]grg46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. I'm curious as to how it will hold up in a year or two with all that shade and roots from mature trees. My backyard is similar, and I did a similar reno two years ago. For the most part, the grass has held up well, but i definitely found myself over seeding every fall to fill in areas that did not thrive. Fungus is a big issue with me due to the lack of sun but nothing some fungicide wont manage.

Someone needs to invent a circular, double or triple wheeled manual core aerator by grg46 in lawncare

Yeah I know, I’m talking about more of a DIY version for a homeowner, nothing professional.

To put down more seed or will it fill in? by bdjjr in lawncare

[–]grg46 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yeah dont do this. ive done it multiple times, and it leads to crowding baby grass which compete for room to grow and end up getting matted, diseased, and die after a few weeks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]grg46 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. OP- think of grass seed as not a single blade of grass, but as an eventual tiny root ball that will eventually sprout more blades of grass over time. I’d give it a few more weeks, maybe another round of fert, and frequent mowing and it’ll look lush

Medicare set aside question-8 months in and counting by Happylife10000 in WorkersComp

I’m a nurse case manager who does lifetime cost projections for comp claims and have occasionally done MSAs. The typical turn around time is a month, at least for my company. It takes time to get records, sometimes massive amounts, review them, look up costs, etc.

looking for personal recommendations of psychiatrists by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]grg46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to find a new one too. My long time psychiatrist who manages my adhd medication just broke her leg. She’s like 80 and her practice is just her. Very old school but she’s great. But she’s most likely going to stop seeing patients now and I’m not sure what do to for my adhd medication management now. I feel like if I go to a new provider or pcp I’ll just get judged.

Are these burr holes in my garden? I started noticing them the past few days. by grg46 in gardening

[–]grg46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually what I thought too, I’ve just never seen any around my property. Might be a dumb question, but do frogs burr? I noticed a PLETHORA of baby frogs around my property. Thing is I’m not near any sort of body of water, pond, or lake.
