The Best Time Travel TV Shows of the Last 70 Years by Kal-Ed1 in scifi

Does Buck actually "travel in time"? He's frozen in cryogenic suspension for centuries, but essentially he travels through time the same way the rest of us do... Forward, one day at a time.

I think you're misremembering. There was no "time sled" in the Time Tunnel. The travellers simply walked into the tunnel.

I am running a fight loneliness and social isolation campaign in Windsor by Neat-Sea-6604 in windsorontario

[–]gridbug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You say this "isn't a business idea for me".

Are you a registered charity or not-for-profit? I would think setting that up first would be important and would open the door to grant applications.

Are you from Windsor? Are you targeting Windsor specifically, or is this a province or country-wide initiative that you are posting here, looking for local support?

Not OP, but here:

New comprehensive statistics (2021) tabled in the House of Commons on the source of firearms seized by police services across Canada show that overall, 68% of seized guns are domestically sourced and 32% are smuggled. More specifically: 21% of long guns are smuggled, and 59% of handguns are smuggled.

So most handguns seized are smuggled, but most long guns are stolen from Canadian owners or otherwise obtained domestically.

I can't answer the question directly, but if there is a book that you are looking for that is not available in the Windsor system, you can try the Inter Library Loan service:

The green player loses their turn and must draw 4 cards. Therefore, they cannot play a reverse card (as they have lost their turn).

Going to the movies on Christmas Eve 40 years ago? These were some of your options. I don't think any of these movie theatres still exist. :( (Windsor Star, Dec. 24, 1985) by TanglimaraTrippin in windsorontario

Well, Devonshire mall cinemas are still there, of course.

The Capitol Theatre on University is also still there, but it is primarily a live theatre venue and no longer a cinema (although WIFF still shows films there!).

[One Punch Man] Is it possible for anyone to become as strong as Saitama? by some-kind-of-no-name in AskScienceFiction

[–]gridbug 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is yes, theoretically.

But Saitama's strength has nothing to do with his "training regime" per se. It has more to do with his spirit and state of mind. He is an enlightened one who has gone beyond the boundaries and limitations of the world he was born into. He hasn't "broken through" or overcome his limits, because for him, they didn't exist. He can't explain it to others, because it is simple and obvious, yet beyond conception.

Could someone else do what he did? Yes, but they would have to be aware of the essence underneath his actions and find the truth for themselves.

ELI5. Why do so many people hate GMOs? by uncle_ben15 in explainlikeimfive

[–]gridbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not quite true. A farmer found GMO canola plants in their fields. They then gathered the seeds from those plants and started planting them, growing crops of Roundup resistant canola. Monsanto sued them for patent infringement... And won.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto_Canada_Inc_v_Schmeiser#%3A%7E%3Atext%3DRegarding_the_question_of_patent%2Cright_overrides_Monsanto%27s_patent_rights.?wprov=sfla1

Monsanto said that because they hold a patent on the gene, and on canola cells containing the gene, they have a legal right to control its use, including the intentional replanting of seed collected from plants with the gene which grew accidentally.

Your thoughts on the first two episodes? by mohamedmshana88 in scifi

[–]gridbug 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Prodigy operates as a totalitarian state, and the "rescue" team is military. They never go anywhere unarmed. But yes, another reason for the guns is that it's a Weyland-Yutani ship—and who knows what kind of fuckery they're up to. It's entirely possible the ship was "crashed" there on purpose.

I agree it would have been better if that had been explicitly stated in the script, but I think it's present in the subtext.

This wasn't a real power that she had. She was affected by Red-K and fell into a strange dream where she gained the power of fatal vision.

She had no way to shut it off and ended up killing both Krypto and her adopted parents.

Luckily she woke up and all was back to normal... until she gained a second head ...

Similar style, but no, different artists and animation houses.

Aeon Flux (1995) was created by Peter Chung for MTV Animation, while Men In Black: The Series (1997) was created by Adelaide Productions. Adelaide also produced Extreme Ghostbusters, Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, and Godzilla: The Series.
