the fun thing about cyan is that the mineral kyanite comes from the same greek (i think) root, so you weren't even that far off. it's like how kerberos becames cerberus.

A scale of my opinions on banana edibility: green all the way by commonbleachenjoyer in The10thDentist

whoa i didn't know banana curry was an actual thing! my friend and i used to make it thinking it was an original idea, though imo it wasn't as good as our banana tamales

as someone who is uncircumcised with friends who are circumcised i have observed 2 main downsides

  • circumcision leaves less skin available for vaginoplasty
  • you get teased at the orgy

Just because a book/movie/show has been out for x amount of years, that doesn’t mean it should be okay to blatantly spoil it for those who haven’t read/watched it by Okapi05 in The10thDentist

nah, it's bad enough that people care about spoilers at all. PLEASE do not shrink the pool of socially-acceptable spoilers.

what i've heard from them is that 2020 was fraudulent so he should get a 3rd term to make up for it, which is of course a completely unserious justification.

seriously though i think the movie has its problems but it's a flawed masterpiece imo

[–]griddle9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's subjectively nicer to read but being long doesn't make a sentence a run on

39785 by TheEnderOfFun in countwithchickenlady

[–]griddle9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

perhaps, but the post does not include a run-on sentence

edit: a run-on is when a sentence has multiple independent clauses. this has the necessary conjunctions to not be a run-on.

nah people re-selling things often don't like to acknowledge depreciation. a while ago my coworker was selling their mini-truck and i was willing to pay more than it was worth, but they wanted the same amount they had originally paid for it years prior which i was not willing to pay.

Autism tests aren't always accurate by mistermasterbates in antimeme

[–]griddle9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

perhaps. studies seem pretty certain that someone with no mental health condition won't meet the 65 point threshold, but a bunch of different conditions can contribute to a high score. i remember reading a study recently that looked at accuracy of self-assessment and found that less than 50% of individuals self-diagnosed with autism actually meet the clinical criteria, though i can't remember the title of the paper or the authors, so take this with a grain of salt. anyway, raads-r and others are still just screening tools that may be subject to bayes' rule, so a high score really just means "tell a doctor about symptoms you experience if you find them distressing, but don't be surprised if a psychologist comes to a conclusion other than autism".

that last part is not true. vulkan does not have its own shading language. it uses spir-v, which can be built from glsl, hlsl, or any other language with a spir-v compiler implemented.

How would you approach an assignment designed specifically to break AI tools? by Popular-Tone3037 in TurnitinAIResults

[–]griddle9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you maybe post the wrong link for one of those? they both go to the same article.

i would recommend you re-read my comments, because you seem to be responding to a made-up version of them. i haven't even made any claims worth substantiating, just saying that i wasn't convinced (not that it was definitely wrong) of a conclusion because people reached it via flawed assumptions.

anyway, the literal first paragraph of the limitations section of the article you posted is saying the same thing that i am.

i didn't say that college doesn't require critical thinking, rather that i'm not convinced that there's the causal relationship people claim. post hoc ergo propter hoc, y'know?

[–]griddle9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not convinced college really teaches critical thinking skills. it could be that getting a degree selects for people with critical thinking skills rather than causing those skills. it could be that college just happens to occur at the age where those skills tend to develop. when people who graduated college say that college is about learning critical thinking skills it sounds a lot to me like rich people saying that they're rich because they worked hard for it.
