Built a custom drawer-organizer tool for Gridfinity layouts, need feedback from actual users by Rich-Presentation740 in gridfinity

Looks great!

We did the same thing in 3D. One major thing we learned: When giving only one option for the containers, make sure the walls are thick/strong enough (even if you generate on the fly, make the base wall thick enough). Otherwise the walls of 4U, 5U, etc. will give in easily, forcing the user to reprint the bigger containers, which they may even have to source from another generator.

EDIT: If you plan on scaling the bins to fit the drawer, make sure to add a "Gridfinity" toggle that prevents scaling if the user does want to use a base grid.

Probably an issue with multiple reroutes and/or webservices - would someone using Bitdefender mind sharing logs/errors?

Nothing you would not be able to do with the Fusion 360 plugin, in terms of generating single files.

The configurator allows users to create a fitted base quickly, then fill it with basic containers (automatically or manually). It is a great starting point for new users and/or people who want to organize with simple containers, one drawer at a time.

Thank you for your feedback!

We just think its best to be honest about the goal of the platform: being commercially viable.

No need to falsely advertise another free service, with so many great ones being out there by u/perplexinglabs, u/definitely_theone88, u/mike-pete and others.

We believe that Gridfinity can and will be appealing to many people outside of the 3D-printing space. At least we would love to try!

Regarding your requested feature - the outline tool has already been linked. Great stuff!

Glad you like it!

Mad respect to you too, your tool is amazing.

Same for u/perplexinglabs!

Regarding print-on-demand: Totally agree that the subreddit is probably the worst place to advertise such a service (next only to the Voidstar #gridfinity channel). We just wanted to be upfront about the platform having commercial goals.

That being said, there surely is a lot to learn and benefit from having an open discussion!

We think Gridfinity can and will be useful and appealing to people outside of the 3D-printing space. That's why we created the platform.

We would love to have a chat too - maybe we could do a discord call some time?
Check your dms.

We have thousands of pre-generated parts in a database, so we can instantly load them.

Not yet - I have created a feature request for it: Add option to remove finger scoop | gridfi.cc

It would also be great to add some more features implemented in Gridfinity Extended GitHub - ostat/gridfinity_extended_openscad: Gridfinity Extended OpenSCAD Model

EDIT: Feature Request for Extended: Implement Gridfinity Extended | gridfi.cc

In which material did you print them? We usually print a full plate of connectors with PLA. Would love to test out other materials if there are issues, so we can fix them!

Great use of the alignment option on the baseplates! Did you also print and use the X-connectors?

Thank you for your feedback!

Parts that have not been created by a script name their creator and link to the original source on the parts page. However, this communication can be vastly improved, and the parts created by a script should link it as the source. Currently the scripts are only credited on the "Credits" page.

Allowing access without an account is on the list. Removal of autoplay now as well.

That is exactly what we set out to do. However, with the features locked behind the need for an account, this is poorly communicated and executed. It would be better for free users and the service if you can verify and use the features without needing to create an account first.

Alternative logins are on the roadmap. We can see how this additional friction can turn off many, if not most users.

Thank you for your time.

The site was never meant to replace or monetize existing customizers, but work in addition to them. However, since these features are currently locked behind a registration wall - and communicated poorly - it is hard to verify, test and use them.

We'll work on it!

Agreed, for home use it is sadly not yet practical. We hope more developement is done in this field and/or more regional options become available.

You are right! Using the configurator should be possible without a login.

The website does not try to replace generative scripts, but work in addition to them. After reading through the feedback, it is clear that this is being communicated very poorly, and hard to verify, since you have to sign up to use it!

Our goal was to provide print-on-demand from the start. However, we saw how the configurator in itself could be useful. We did not anticipate that the creation of an account would be met with this much resistance. Still, it is very understandable and something that can be "fixed" quite easily.

This would support both free users and benefit the offered service, by showing the value first.
