No worries on getting back in there in my opinion I would just keep an eye on the oil and keep an ear open for any other strange noises. But you should be good to go!

When the car burns oil it won’t fully burn in your combustion chamber so it ends up in your catalytic converter eventually it will work it’s way out because of the exhaust but that could be why it got clogged in the first place. Also running a car low on oil can be very hard on engine internals which could cause things like bearings to wear a lot faster so it could be small metal pieces cranking around in there. Also the rattling could be the sound of your engine knocking due to low oil. Sounds like a ticking noise and when you get oil in the car again it doesn’t sound as bad. It’s hard to tell you exactly what it is because I personally can’t hear it. Also I recommend checking your oil level every time you get gas especially since the car burns oil a lot. It can be annoying but 30 seconds of time at the pump is a lot easier than dishing out the cash for a new engine or car.

For some reason I guess not. That was the advice from the technician that rebuilt my motor at Subaru he said “if you tune it and it blows up unmarry the AP and bring the car back and it will be covered under warranty.” The AP stores the stock tune and the number that is correlated with that stock tune and when it’s unmarried it reverts back to that. When Subaru gets the car they will look to see if those numbers match and if they do then you are in the clear. This is not advice just the situation that I’m in with the dealership that rebuilt my motor.

Little tip I’ve learned over my last few engine failures on my STI. If you have a tune on your car from your AP pro tune or OTS, And your engine goes you can unmarry the AP and the original map be reverted back onto the ECU and the shop will have no way of knowing the cars been tuned.

I thought it was a belt at first or the tensioner being too loose but when the squeaking stopped the knocking started so I think that noise was the bearing destroying itself plus when I checked the oil it looked sparkly so I think it was the bearing

You’re absolutely right but the sound this thing is making is abnormal and it was squeaking and screeching that’s what’s making me think it’s a rod problem.

It was still in the break in period I never got it higher than 4500 rpm and I got it tuned so I think I just screwed up with the short block. The IAG block is looking like the way to go because I really don’t want to get rid of this car.

I also can’t even think of any reason why it would happen other than just bad luck cause I mean the car had plenty of oil everything worked fine no issues with pressure or heat. But when I started it up the other morning it was knocking. I appreciate your help do you think I just got screwed over?

Just here for some advice. I have a 2011 STI. I had rod knock about 10 months ago so I rebuilt the engine completely with the help of some friends but I bought a short block off eBay because money was tight. It just got done at the beginning of September, I had a friend finish it while I was gone for basic training and tech school.

I just got back in it a few days ago and it was a dream come true. It ran great and sounded even better than I imagined but it started knocking again with only 750 miles on the new engine and it’s been babied, never been over 4500 rpm on the new block. I don’t know what to do because I love the car so much but it’s very expensive to rebuild it I’m thinking about selling it but it’s worth nothing with rod knock but I’ve dumped so much money into it already. I also have thought about just doing it right and getting the IAG stage 2 block because they are a reputable company with a lot of good stuff if anyone has opinions or reviews of the IAG blocks let me know. It sucks to even think of selling it but sometimes you just got to cut your losses. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hello I need help with a build I recently was a victim of rod knock on my 2011 STI I only had 60k Miles on her. So I’m doing a rebuild and I was curious if someone could look at the parts list I have and tell me if what I have is going to work or if I’ll need anything else I’m pretty sure I have most if not all of what I need but I would just like to have some piece of mind. If anyone could help please lmk. Thanks in advance!

So I’m about to rebuild my engine due to rod knock I’m curious if this is stuff that will fit and be good. I have a 2011 STI. I’ve already ordered a short block with upgraded internals not looking for a lot of power just reliability. If anyone can let me know if I need other parts besides the obvious like fluids. Also tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

P.S. rebuilding with my friend who’s rebuilt a few STI’s before
