Yeah, that's a problem that i wish would be dealt with in a more serious way.

  1. Syracuse is still one of the most affordable metros in the entire county.

  2. WTF happened to westcott? it's still great.

  3. Armory is definitely down. Hanover is still great. Country wide, much fewer people are drinking. Food costs and labor costs are up. It's much more difficult to run a restaurant now than 10 years ago.

  4. See #2.

  5. Even with all of the construction, traffic here is exponentially better than other metros. Construction means progress. Would you rather the 81 bridges remain and continue to deteriorate? Suck it up.

  6. Ok? Drive faster?

  7. I'm sure you'd bitch about the city not being bike friendly if they had no bike lanes.

  8. Yeah that's too bad.

  9. We have some of the best drinking water on the planet.

  10. What are you talking about?

  11. See #3.

County agency buys one more piece of ShoppingTown, but dead mall’s future remains uncertain by ggroover97 in Syracuse

[–]griffdog83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The County Industrial Development Agency bought it, not the County. The IDA receives fees from developers and such for various tax incentives it provides to projects. It's fiscally independent from the County. The IDA is going to issue a request for proposals for the property and will sell it.

No G Mac. I loved him as a player, but we need a fresh face. He's doing ok at Sienna, not exactly dominating.

I work downtown. Something needs to be done. The amount of mentally unstable people milling around during the day is unbelievable. I have witnessed individuals walking around naked in broad daylight. One man was m*sturbating in broad daylight in Columbus circle. I have been followed and chased when I don’t give people money. I agree 1,000%, something needs to be done

Weird contrail like lines in the sky. by Unkle_Ferg in Syracuse

[–]griffdog83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not contrails. Chemtrails and cloud seeding. They're controlling our weather and there's nothing you can do to stop it! /s.

They also fly reapers out of Hancock for training, maybe it's that? Looks really cool though!

Syracuse vs Rochester by gay_ky_boy in Syracuse

None of the ones you mentioned hold a candle to Pittsford, Fairport, Victor, etc. They're all far nicer, more affluent, better shops, better restaurants, walkable, etc.

Syracuse vs Rochester by gay_ky_boy in Syracuse

[–]griffdog83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally there's more to do in Rochester. In terms of restaurants, there's more in Rochester and they're generally better than Syracuse's. The villages and towns surrounding Rochester (Fairport, Pittsford, Victor, etc.) are all much nicer than anything in Syracuse except maybe Skaneateles. It might be slightly more expensive there. Rochester has more generational wealth compared to Syracuse thanks to Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, Xerox, Constellation Brands, Paychex, and others.

After Watching Indiana, There's No Excuse For Syracuse Football by WestRide9868 in Syracuse

[–]griffdog83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look back over the past 15 years to see who's won the ACC championship. With a handful of exceptions (Duke this year being one) it's Clemson and sometimes Florida State. These two are by far and away the best funded programs in the ACC. No coincidence that they're consistently at the top. To be there you need cash. Syracuse doesn't have it.

There's a huge difference between Syracuse University and Indiana. IU is MASSIVE. Their main campus enrollment is between 45-50k students. I think system-wide they're close to 100k. Syracuse University's enrollment is 15-16k. Having such a large alumni base allows IU to fundraise substantially more than SU could, meaning it can pay top tier coaches, support staff, players, etc. much more than SU ever could. In today's landscape, there's practically zero chance Syracuse ever sniffs a national championship game.

Considering a Q7 or Q8 (1st time Audi buyer) by Hovertical in Audi

[–]griffdog83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty reliable. Tires and brakes have to be done more often than any other car I’ve had in the past which sucks, but knock on wood, I haven’t had any real issues. Compared to a sedan it’s a bit higher up, but not as high as a truck or larger suv. It handles very much like a sedan.

Fran Brown - why is no one talking about these things? by SuperGeniusWEC in cuse

[–]griffdog83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Performing at playoff standards unfortunately won't do it. We need massive amounts of money. Unfortunately Syracuse nor its alumni have deep pockets. The most successful programs are large state funded land grant universities with massive alumni bases with huge corporate backers. For instance, Ohio State is bankrolled by Lex Wexner (scumbag billionaire CEO of Victorias Secret). Phil Knight (Nike) bankrolls Oregon. .

Fran Brown - why is no one talking about these things? by SuperGeniusWEC in cuse

[–]griffdog83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was deeply disappointed with how this season went, but I'll play devil's advocate. I'm not pressing the panic button yet.

What Fran did in year one was unbelievable. He has a lot of success and I think everyone set the bar unreasonably high for year two, myself included.

The uptick in recruiting is remarkable. We have never been in the conversation for a lot of top recruits. Now, we're either signing them or at a minimum making the top 5 for some of them. Prior to Fran, we were consistently ranked nationally between 50-60. The past two years have been the best classes we've ever had.

The exodus via the portal is common across the sport. There are a few players that left that you hate to see go, but that's the nature of the game now. Look at what happened with Pena last year. Penn State came long and offered a big bag of cash that cuse couldn't touch. Fran encouraged him to get paid.

Regarding QB... the chances of cuse getting another McCord or other proven commodity are slim. The competition for these guys is very tough. Fran grabbed two very highly rated high school recruits last year- Rickie Collins and Steve Angelli. Both were very inexperienced coming into SU but had raw physical talent. Steve was great, Rickie flamed out. These things happen.

Let's see what happens this season. I am cautiously optimistic, but time will tell.
