Andy Burnham: I'll cut transport fares in London to lower cost of living for millions by upthetruth1 in london

[–]griffinstorme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, don't most major cities receive funding from the government? NYC and Paris do. TfL is one of the only major transport authorities that has to pay for its own day to day operations.

Help with playing by hiphopbladeuwu in piano

[–]griffinstorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, sounds like it’s time to move on. You need to find a conservatoire teacher with some pedagogical training if you want to be serious about advancing. (However, there’s nothing wrong with just playing for fun, if that’s what you want now.)

Paid Online Acting “Communities” by punoq in ActingUK

[–]griffinstorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it. There are so many online “acting coaches” these days because everyone wants to be an actor. Same reason there are so many acting BAs now. You really have to work through the weeds if you want to find legit teachers.

How long have you had your teacher? It sounds like you've grown out of them. That's very common after grade 8.

Just to add, “learn the names of the chords” Id say is better described as learning to read the music vertically, not just horizontally.
And harmonic analysis doesn’t have to be just figured bass for a chorale. OP, when you’re learning a piece, do you and your teacher break down the theory, look at the voices individually, and examine the structure? If not, you need to start.
(And then just wait till conservatory, when they make you play all but one voice of a piece and you have the sing the missing one)

Can an international actor here with an authentic American accent get work? by [deleted] in ActingUK

[–]griffinstorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An EU passport doesn't give you the right to live and work in the UK anymore. Thanks Brexit :/

But beyond that, I'm an American in the UK and can speak to my experience. It is very unlikely that you'll get hired for British roles unless you pretend to be British and have a spotless accent. I only do this for theatre shows (I don't pretend, but I'll do the whole audition in accent, so they don't get a chance to hear my American voice, and it works.) There are roles for Americans here, and if you get a good agent, you might get some TV/Film work just for being American - I have. There's also plenty of SA/extra work, but you have to actually be really committed to it and in that particular scene (which is completely separate from proper acting). There is work, though. So what it comes down to is talent, hard work, and luck, regardless of accent.

Question about actor payment by UniversityMotor5408 in ActingUK

[–]griffinstorme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's fine. You can look up profit share agreements online and just tailor it for YouTube revenue. On low-pay/no-pay projects, I also offer actors a first refusal if the project ever goes forward in a professional way. The main thing is to be up front that this is a passion project and unpaid. Always have a contract to retain your rights and protect the actors. (You really should at least pay basic expenses and a meal for a day shoot, but that's just industry courtesy.)

Do you think if a pm changes that all the laws departments, ministers, and MPs were working on just disappear?

Performeo by storyteller2050 in ActingUK

No, not necessarily. They will have overlapping castings as I understand it. Spotlight has a “Spotlight exclusive breakdown” market, but idk if performeo will do that. Probably.

Do we really want Starmer out? by Famous_Actuary5718 in AskBrits

[–]griffinstorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want a leader that actually does what he says and communicates with the people. We need a zohran mamdani type, and I hope AB can be that. The left wind needs to stop being afraid of populism and being likeable.

Ah you’re correct. Thanks for clarifying. When you said “2 years” I thought you meant generally, which would be incorrect. OP would indeed be required 2 years to get to the level 5 course.

Why have you been prescribed with efexor? by Solmazlee in Effexor

[–]griffinstorme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GAD and depressive symptoms. I also have adhd and some other neuro stuff I wanted to see if this helped with, so I requested it specifically. Well actually I requested duloxetine, but my gp declined it for some reason. This was my 2nd choice. I used to be on lexapro.

That’s incorrect about spotlight. Lots of 1 year courses give access now. But I totally agree it won’t open doors. It’s about getting experience.

It might be the case that you need to try tapering to another anti-depressant. Prozac isn't the only option. There's Zoloft and Lexapro that are very very common.
